Plant genetic resources (PGR) are a vital research infrastructure and an important asset to increase the resiliency of agri-food systems, conserve agrobiodiversity mitigate effects climate change. In current scenarios change biodiversity loss, it becomes increasingly urgent ensure conservation existing crop diversity assure its availability for breeding enable development new, adapted crops. Throughout Europe, more than 400 collections PGR over 6,500 genera, with 2 million accessions documented in European Search Catalogue Genetic Resources (EURISCO). To make these available breeders, investment is needed. Here, we analyze participation genebanks collaborative projects within EU Horizon scheme as indicator use research. We highlight two projects, AGENT G2P-SOL, ECPGR initiative Evaluation Network (EVA), which have brought together other stakeholders create tools knowledge on PGR. Their experience could be translated into dedicated, large (GRACE-RI), suggested Strategy Europe currently concept phase by project PRO-GRACE. GRACE-RI will connect institutes involved key ensuring access well-documented maintained methods their characterization utilization, preventing further loss plant threatening agriculture natural landscapes.
