ABSTRACT Boards of Directors is one the most recurring topics in corporate governance literature. In family firm realm, have distinctive features compared to non‐family firms; their functions and activities can differ significantly. Indeed, degree involvement board heterogeneity directors' characteristics produce different effects on behaviors, decision‐making processes, performance. Applying diverse approaches, continuous increase research produces many results, making it hard reflect development this area. We conduct an integrative literature review renovate knowledge infrastructure, starting from outcomes exploratory bibliometric overview 130 representative articles between 1988 2023 published top‐tier as well specialistic academic journals.
