Lung ultrasound (LUS) has become a crucial part of the investigative tools available in management critically ill patients, both within intensive care unit setting and prehospital medicine. The increase its application, driven by COVID-19 pandemic, along with easy access use mobile handheld devices, allows for immediate to information, reducing need other radiological investigations. LUS rapid accurate diagnosis grading respiratory pathology, optimisation ventilation, assessment weaning, monitoring efficacy surfactant therapies. This, however, must occur framework accreditation ensure patient safety prevent misinterpretation misdiagnosis. This narrative review aims outline current uses context published protocols, associated pathologies, scoring systems, their applications, whilst exploring more novel uses.
