Plants possess a complex signaling system that enables them to sense and adapt various environmental stressors, including abiotic factors like extreme temperatures, drought, salinity, toxic heavy metals. While the roles of hormones molecules in plant stress responses are well established, involvement neurotransmitters-traditionally linked animal nervous systems-in physiology is relatively underexplored area. Recent findings indicate neurotransmitters such as gamma-aminobutyric acid, glutamate, serotonin, dopamine play crucial several physiological processes within plants. They regulate ion channels, adjust stomatal movements, modulate production reactive oxygen species, influence gene expression. Evidence suggests these enhance antioxidant defense mechanisms stress-responsive pathways vital for tolerance. Additionally, under stressful conditions, have been shown impact growth, development, reproductive activities. This review aims illuminate emerging understanding key biomediators stress.
