Cyclodextrins (CDs) have largely been investigated during the last decades for their outstanding properties, such as biocompatibility and biodegradability, with wide applications in pharmaceutical field, among which formation of inclusion complexes (ICs) natural or synthetic lipophilic compounds. This review prioritizes research recent years (2022–2025), being focused on (1) systematization ICs based structure secondary metabolite, namely (i) polyphenols (PPs), (ii) terpenes terpenoids (TTs), (iii) alkaloids (Alks); (2) each type complex, following aspects discussed: benefits complexation, composite materials, vitro/in vivo theoretical studies; (3) pharmacokinetics pharmacodynamics, risks, limitations, perspectives cyclodextrin metabolites.

The ability to employ waste products, such as vegetable scraps, raw materials for the synthesis of new promising adsorbing is at base circular economy and end concepts. Dextrin-based nanosponges (D_NS), both cyclodextrin (CD) maltodextrin (MD), have shown remarkable adsorption abilities in removal toxic compounds from water wastewater, thus representing a bio-based low-cost solution which establishing itself market. Nevertheless, their environmental safety either aquatic or terrestrial organisms has been overlooked, raising concern terms potential hazards natural ecosystems. Here, (ecosafety) six newly synthesized batches D_NS was determined along with full characterization by means dynamic light scattering (DLS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy attenuated total reflection (FTIR-ATR) transmission electron microscopy (SEM). Ecotoxicity evaluation performed using battery model ecotoxicity assays, microalgae growth inhibition test freshwater Raphidocelis subcapitata marine diatom Dunaliella tertiolecta, regeneration assay cnidarian Hydra vulgaris immobilization brine shrimp Artemia franciscana. Impact on seedling germination plant commercial interest, Cucurbita pepo also investigated. data showed mild low toxicity batches, up 1 mg/mL, following order: R. > H. Those criticalities were solved fresh hence attributed single not specific formulation. No effect pumpkin but rather more stimulative observed. To our knowledge this first D_ NS. As we emphasize that current formulations exposure levels range mg/mL do harm species an ecosafe applications.

Abstract Cyclodextrins (CDs) are cyclic oligosaccharides derived from the enzymatic degradation of starch. Their distinct molecular shape, which resembles a truncated cone with hydrophobic interior and hydrophilic outer surface, enables formation inclusion complexes via host–guest interactions. These facilitate beneficial modifications such as enhancing solubility stabilizing unstable guest molecules. By forming bioactive components drugs, CDs can increase bioavailability these compounds, providing benefits in treatment various diseases. Particularly, β‐CD form by trapping molecules cholesterol its cavity. Moreover, considered significant soluble dietary fibers due to their resistance against human digestive enzymes utilization intestinal microbiota. All features suggest that could encapsulate phospholipids food components, potentially improving or preventing metabolic diseases cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, neurological disorders blocking absorption carbohydrates, fats, cholesterol. This review seeks investigate clinical effects mechanisms action considering all potential properties relevance health utilizing vivo, vitro, animal, studies.
