Although positive- and negative-sense single-stranded RNA viruses are ubiquitous in nature, there is currently no evidence of recombination or reassortment between with these two major forms genome organization. Here, we describe the discovery brine shrimp virga-like virus 1 (BSVV1), a novel positive-sense recombinant structure derived from viral phyla differing organizations. The BSVV1 comprises three open reading frames (ORFs). ORF1 resembles RNA-dependent polymerase Ips (a virus), while ORF2, transcribed positive orientation, related to glycoprotein Hubei bunya-like 10 other viruses. predicted ORF3 was unique without known homologs identified. presence protein products verified by mass spectrometry. Notably, our analysis also revealed that geographically widespread found at least eight countries on four continents. In addition, successfully cultured proliferated high loads during development. sum, provide compelling an ancient event negative- viruses, enriching understanding evolution structures
