Seawater desalination has become an essential part of the drinking water supply many arid countries in world - including Cyprus and wider Mediterranean Middle Eastern region. In this study, microinvertebrate fauna near outfall sites 2 seawater plants, Dhekelia Larnaca, was assessed by microscopy-based classical taxonomy eDNA metabarcoding. The results show impact brine discharge on marine benthic communities. community structure abiotic factors more prominent sediments than water, alpha diversity from metabarcoding were consistent with microscopy but differed taxonomically.
