Biofeedback is increasingly used in practice due to diversity, the possibility of visualization corrective functions, and availability objective indicators for assessing dynamics training process. helps teach patients skills that alleviate their condition, support active functioning, thereby increasing quality life. One simple methods biofeedback cardiorespiratory training, during which patient learns skill diaphragmatic relaxation breathing, effective rehabilitation various pathologies, especially pediatric practice. This type based on control breathing heart rate variability (HRV). HRV reflects body’s ability quickly recover from exposure mental physical stress factors. a unique marker person’s cardiovascular psychophysiological health. clinical example demonstrates case respiratory correction with comorbidities (multiple sclerosis, essential arterial hypertension, panic disorder). The was chosen as most optimal improving patient’s life, respect leading complaint attacks. main goals this child allowed learning cope future attacks, reduce anxiety improve his well-being. article describes detail course recommended exercises daily use, presents positive trend recorded condition by end course. Cardiorespiratory an understandable method can be actively assessment classes performed psycho-emotional children adolescents pathologies.

Mental illness such as depression and anxiety well cerebrovascular disease are linked to impairment of neurocardiac function mediated by changes the autonomic nervous system with increased sympathetic decreased parasympathetic activity. Autonomic can be evaluated computing heart rate variability (HRV). Over past decades, research has demonstrated diagnostic value HRV independent predictor cardiovascular mortality marker in progressive disorders Parkinson's disease. We discuss Heart Rate Variability (HRV) measured during mindful breathing meditation. provide a pedagogical computation of two commonly used heart rate variability metrics, i.e. the root mean square successive differences (RMSSD) and standard deviation RR intervals (SDRR), in terms Fourier components. It is shown that preferentially weights higher frequency modes, making it unsuitable as biosignal for meditation which encourages slow breathing. propose new metric called autonomic balance index (ABI) uses Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia to quantify fraction contributed by parasympathetic nervous system. apply this data collected different techniques, show significantly elevated breathing, good signal biofeedback sessions.

Hand displacements during task-directed movements are not random, but exhibit fractal behavior. Wearable sensing e.g., accelerometer-derived hand movement fluctuations, could add a significant contribution to cognitive and behavioral sciences, by accounting for dynamics. In particular, multifractal testing of fluctuation time series has been shown reflect the adaptive use cognition, i.e., flexibility. This important property might be enhanced an improved mental state. Here, experimental group (16 participants, 3 females) practiced 5 min cardiac coherence (CC) prior flexibility task was compared control (13 4 females). Accelerometer-derived motion analyzed using multifractal-multiscale detrended analysis (MFMS-DFA) involving flexibility, Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). WCST included four phases alternating cards with original shapes or animal pictures developed children in previous research. derived from wearable accelerometer effectively exhibited nonlinear multifractality as linearized surrogates testing. Multifractal-multiscale metrics revealed effects pre-task CC practice, specifically shape condition where participants showed lower degree despite similar performances (perseverative errors). We conclude that make interpreting changes

Slow-paced breathing at an individual's resonance frequency (RF) is a common element of heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback training (Laborde et al. in Psychophysiology 59:e13952, 2022). Although there strong empirical support for teaching clients to slow their respiration (RR) the adult RF range between 4.5 and 6.5 bpm (Lehrer & Gevirtz, 2014), have been no definitive findings regarding best inhalation-to-exhalation (IE) ratio increase HRV when within this range. Three methodological challenges frustrated previous studies: ensuring participants breathed target RR, IE ratio, same RR during each ratio. Abstract Background Adolescents with autism present lower levels of cardiac vagal modulation in comparison to typically developing peers. These values are also associated psychosocial and behavioral problems. Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HRVB) was therefore suggested as an interesting avenue for further exploration since it focusses on the up-regulation has demonstrated positive effects mental health outcomes. However, scarce evidence regarding effectiveness HRVB this population. It hypothesized that would increase level adolescents which result physiological outcome measures parameters. Furthermore, a home-based, non-supervised training be feasible Methods A single-blind, randomized sham-controlled pilot trial used. During initial single-blind phase, performed supervised (n=24) or sham (n=20) five weeks one guided session per week home-based practice (20 min) remaining days. In subsequent follow-up period weeks, half each group received at home, manner, whereas other subset did not during period. combination physiological, cortisol data collected standardized stress-provoking assessments before (T0) after (T1 T2). Results Supervised resulted late autism. rate increased decreased significantly immediately training, but none these remained weeks. None functioning self-reported stress revealed significant change following training. The population decrease compliance rate. reported symptoms period, regardless prior (sham HRVB). Conclusion is effective by late-emerging increases less stress. Researchers encouraged replicate study larger sample size explore possible working mechanisms HRVB.
