In this review, we describe the role of plant-derived biochemicals that are toxic to insect pests. Biotic stress in plants caused by pests is one most significant problems, leading yield losses. Synthetic pesticides still play a crop protection. However, environmental side effects and health issues overuse or inappropriate application synthetic forced authorities ban some problematic ones. Consequently, there strong necessity for novel alternative pest control methods. An interesting source ecological biocidal compounds, naturally occurring as allelochemicals (secondary metabolites), helping resist, tolerate compensate The abovementioned bioactive natural products first line defense against herbivores. large group secondary plant metabolites, including alkaloids, saponins, phenols terpenes, promising compounds management Secondary metabolites offer sustainable control, therefore can conclude certain species provide numerous possibilities discovering ecologically friendly methods

Abstract Interspecific New Rice for Africa (NERICA) varieties have been recently developed and used in Sub‐Saharan but herbivore resistance properties of these plants remain poorly understood. Here we report that, compared to a local Japanese cultivar Nipponbare, NERICA 1, 4 10 are significantly more damaged by insect herbivores the paddy fields. In contrast high levels leaf damage from rice skippers grasshoppers, constitutive induced volatile organic compounds indirect plant defense were higher or similar NERICAs Nipponbare. Accumulation direct secondary metabolites, momilactones A B, p ‐coumaroylputrescine (CoP) was reduced NERICAs, while feruloylputrescine accumulated at all varieties. Finally, found that Nipponbare leaves covered with sharp nonglandular trichomes impregnated silicon comparable structures virtually absent herbivory‐prone plants. As larval gut membranes silicified pass intact through digestive system, occurs, performance is enhanced trichome removal otherwise chemically defended plants, propose work as an important mechanism against chewing herbivores.

Aphids pose a significant threat to global agricultural crop production, leading widespread pesticide use and resistance. This necessitates the of alternative substances, like plant secondary metabolites (PSMs). Plants have developed protective compounds known as alkaloids, terpenoids, phenolics, sulfur- nitrogen-containing metabolites. These exhibit promising characteristics against aphids, such antifeedant, aphicidal, disrupting survival fitness. review highlights importance application in combating aphid populations. Different insect-resistant substances different mechanisms for managing aphids other pests, including defensive signaling, inhibiting growth, attracting natural predators by releasing herbivore-induced volatiles (HIPV). The biopesticides has proven be an effective, economical, eco-friendly synthetic chemicals. Abstract Background Generalist herbivores such as the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae thrive on a wide variety of plants and can rapidly adapt to novel hosts. What traits enable polyphagous cope with diversity secondary metabolites in their variable plant diet is unclear. Genome sequencing T. revealed presence 17 genes that code for secreted proteins strong homology “intradiol ring cleavage dioxygenases (DOGs)” from bacteria fungi, phylogenetic analyses show they have been acquired by horizontal gene transfer fungi. In DOGs well characterized cleave aromatic rings catecholic compounds between adjacent hydroxyl groups. Such are found high amounts solanaceous like tomato, where protect against herbivory. To better understand role this family mites, we used multi-disciplinary approach functionally characterize various DOG genes.
