Geroscience puts mechanisms of aging as a driver the most common age-related diseases and dysfunctions. Under this perspective, addressing basic will produce better understanding than each disease pathophysiology individually. Worldwide, despite greater functional impairment, life expectancy is higher in women men. Gender differences prevalence multimorbidity lead mandatory to underlying gender-related patterns disability-free expectancy. Extensive literature suggested that inflammaging at crossroad diseases. This study aimed to explore the links of handgrip strength and asymmetry with cognitive impairment. was a seven-year prospective cohort study. We used data from wave 3 (2015-2017) 5 (2019-2022) ongoing Taiwan Initiative Geriatric Epidemiological Research (TIGER), as baseline (n = 446). The included community-dwelling participants aged 65 years or older. Handgrip measured, abnormalities were determined based on weakness asymmetry. categorized into three groups at ratio (left strength/right strength). Cognitive tests evaluating global specific domains conducted two biennial follow-ups. Generalized linear mixed models utilized assess associations abnormal cognition multiple domain progression over time. 392 dementia-free participants, an average age 75.8 179 (45.7%) males. Mild present in 88 (22.4%), while 53 (13.5%) exhibited moderate In men, coexistence low linked impairment These observed (β^ -1.76, 95% CI: -2.79 -0.74), memory (immediate free recall: β^ -0.67, -1.17 -0.17), executive function (Trail Making Test-A: -0.54, -0.94 -0.13), attention (Digit span-forward: -1.00, -1.46 -0.54). found that individuals reduced had increased risk across various domains. Moreover, this association appears be more pronounced among men than women. Incorporating these simple assessments regular clinical practice improves allocation limited screening resources timely interventions older adults.

Objective We aimed to investigate the relationship between serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and grip strength using data from 2013–2014 US National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Design Secondary analysis of cross-sectional, population-based data. Setting NHANES sample, 2013–2014. Participants studied 1925 participants aged 20–75 years. Outcome measures applied a multivariable generalised linear regression model, adjusted for several potential confounders, restrictive cubic spline models evaluate association NfL strength. Subgroup analyses were conducted stratified analysis. Results included (average age: 44.8±0.44 years) database. with higher levels had significantly prevalence medical conditions (hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disorder, chronic kidney disease (CKD) cancer) compared those lower (all p<0.001). After adjusting confounding factors, there was negative (β=−2.07; 95% CI −3.47, −0.67; p=0.007). In addition, significant interactions found by age, physical activity CKD (p value interaction=0.002, 0.023 0.006). The results restricted splines (RCS) showed no evidence against non-linearity=0.334). Conclusion Our study demonstrates strong, correlation elevated Notably, our findings indicate that individuals 60 75 years, inactivity exhibit more pronounced reduction in increasing levels.

Although anemia is associated with low muscle strength, hemoglobin has been rarely studied considering ferritin. To analyze the association between and grip strength in community-dwelling older adults. We used data from a German cohort of adults ≥ 65 years, excluding those CRP > 10 mg/L or taking iron supplements. Grip (kg) was measured using Jamar dynamometer. Analysis performed multiple linear regression, adjusted for established confounders. Due to interaction, age-stratified (< 80, 80 +), further sex-stratified analysis < years old ferritin-stratified men were performed. In total, 1294 participants included this (mean age 75.5 549 (42.3%) women, 910 (70.3%) years). On average, 14.9 g/dL 41.3 kg men, 13.9 25.1 women. Hemoglobin significantly positively only among women (β 0.923 [95% CI 0.196, 1.650]). For significant when ferritin 300 µg/L 2.028 0.910, 3.146]). No detected + . Our show an old. levels µg/L. Considering decreasing high prevalence deficiency analyses investigating relationship more specific parameters such as transferrin saturation are warranted.

Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide worldwide, both in domestic and industrial settings. Experimental research animal models has demonstrated changes muscle physiology reduced contractile strength associated with glyphosate exposure, while epidemiological studies have shown associations between exposure adverse health outcomes critical biological systems affecting function. This study data from a nationally representative survey of non-institutionalized U.S. general population (NHANES, n = 2132). Urine concentrations were determined by ion chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. Hand grip (HGS) was measured using Takei Dynamometer, relative estimated as ratio HGS dominant hand appendicular lean (ALM) to body index (ALMBMI) ratio. Balance confidence was scored using Activities-Specific Confidence Scale (ABC), gait speed assessed by 4 m test, handgrip strength a digital dynamometer, balance Timed Up-and-Go Test (TUG). The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Controlled Oral Word Association Test, Boston Naming short-version questionnaires global function, verbal fluency, language, respectively. A bivariate correlation analysis multivariate linear regressions applied, adjusting for confounders (BMI, sex, age, educational level). Shorter time TUG greater status independently associated with improved scores on MMSE. Lower age increased phonological fluency. Better ABC performance higher attainment enhanced semantic Higher education level language (all p < 0.05). Abstract In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between handgrip strength (HGS) and cognitive performance in stage 3-5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients aged ≥ 60 years. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database 2011–2014. Three tests were used assess performance, including consortium establish a registry for Alzheimer’s (CERAD), animal fluency test (AFT), digit symbol substitution (DSST). The multivariate linear regression analyses adjusting confounding factors utilized evaluate of HGS with performance. A total 678 older CKD included study. After multiple factors, higher was positively associated CERAD-delayed recall DSST score. addition, our analysis indicated that probably correlated better immediate learning ability male, while working memory, sustained attention, processing speed female. may be an important indicator deficits patients, especially executive function. Further research explore sex-specific domain-specific possible mechanisms are required.

Introduction: Sarcopenia and diabetes mellitus (DM) have been shown to be related. It has demonstrated that pesticides/insecticides are linked various health issues, including DM. This study investigated the relationships between exposure muscle strength among community-dwelling DM patients in a national sample of United States (US). Methods: Data from 2011–2012 2013–2014 U.S. National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) on people aged 20 years with were retrieved. A digital dynamometer was used quantify handgrip strength, urine pesticide concentrations determined through laboratory testing. Regression models investigate relationship pesticide/insecticide strength. Results: After weighting, data 412 NHANES participants represented 6,696,865 inhabitants. The mean age 58.8 years. High para-nitrophenol levels (tertile 3 vs. tertile 1) associated lower both males (aBeta = −7.25, 95% CI: −11.25, −3.25) females −3.73, −6.89, −0.56). Further, elevated 2-isopropyl−4-methyl-pyrimidinol had decreased Desethyl hydroxy N, N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) inversely related men ≥60 DEET acid correlated women over 60 Conclusions: certain diabetes. Para-nitrophenol, particular, is negatively muscular females, 2-isopropyl-4-methyl-pyrimidinol females.
