A number of anthropogenic and weathering activities accumulate heavy metals in soils, causing adverse effects on soil characteristics, microbial activity (diversity), agricultural practices, underground aquifers. Controlling metal pollution is difficult due to its persistence resulting the deposition transmission into food web via products, ultimately affecting human health. This review critically explores potential for remediation metal-contaminated soils using a biochar-based responsible approach. Plant-based biochar an auspicious bio-based residue substance that can be used metal-polluted improvement as sustainable Plants with rapid growth increased biomass meet requirements phytoremediation large quantities. Recent research indicates significant progress understanding mechanisms accumulation contaminant movement plants soil. Excessive contamination reduces plant growth, which has substantial hyperaccumulating possibilities detrimental process. Biochar derived from various sources promote competence native or wild grown Carbon-enriched encourages by neutralizing pH providing nutritional support. Thus, this discusses influence waste-based soils.

Bivalves are a high-value product whose production has markedly increased, reaching 9863 tonnes in Portugal 2021. Bivalves' habitats-lagoons, estuaries and coastal waters-are exposed to biological anthropogenic contaminants, which can bioaccumulate these organisms pose significant public health risk. The need obtain safe for human consumption led the implementation of standardised hygiene regulations harvesting marketing bivalve molluscs, resulting routine monitoring areas microbial quality, metal marine biotoxins. While excessive levels biotoxins contamination lead temporary bans, high faecal leads area reclassification impose post-harvest treatments. In this study, seasonal temporal variability parameters were analysed using historical data generated by programme during last decade. Moreover, impact program on from 2011 2020 was assessed. This presented considerable improvement over time, with an increase sampling effort overall representativeness. Finally, risk, revising control measures, defining recommendations risk mitigation measures given light ten years' monitoring.

Bioremediation is an effective method treating effluents. A 30 d laboratory experiment was conducted investigate effects bioturbation on sediment across sediment-water interface ecosystems. designed with 3 groups 1 control replicates each. rates oxygen consumption (SOC) physical chemical properties (NH4+, NO3- + NO2- PO43-) were determined. After experiment, levels total organic nitrogen, carbon, phosphorus surficial had declined significantly, alkaline phosphatase content microbial activity increased significantly (p < 0.05).
