The long-term problems of head and neck cancer survivors (HNCS) are not well known. In a cross-sectional international study aimed at exploring the quality life in this population, 1114 HNCS were asked to state their two most serious effects. A clinician recorded responses during face-to-face appointments. list 15 example was provided, but free text field also available. total 1033 responded question. frequent 'dry mouth' (DM) (n = 476; 46%), 'difficulty swallowing/eating' (DSE) 408; 40%), 'hoarseness/difficulty speaking' (HDS) 169; 16%), 'pain neck' (PHN) 142; 14%). 5% reported no problems. Logistic regression adjusted for age, gender, treatment, tumor stage site showed increased odds reporting DM DSE chemo-radiotherapy (CRT) alone compared surgery (odds ratio (OR): 4.7, 95% confidence interval (CI): 2.5-9.0; OR: 2.1, CI: 1.1-3.9), decreased HDS PHN (OR: 0.3, 0.1-0.6; 0.2, 0.1-0.5). Survivors with UICC IV diagnosis I had 1.9, 1.2-3.0). Laryngeal reduced oropharynx 0.4, 0.3-0.6) 7.2, 4.3-12.3). This provides evidence among HNCS.

Proton radiotherapy offers a dosimetric advantage compared to photon therapy in sparing normal tissue, but the clinical evidence for toxicity reductions treatment of head and neck cancer is limited. The Danish Head Neck Cancer Group (DAHANCA) has initiated DAHANCA 35 randomised trial clarify value proton (NCT04607694). performed an enriched population patients selected by anticipated benefit reduce risk late dysphagia or xerostomia based on tissue complication probability (NTCP) modelling. We present our considerations design test selection procedure conducted before initiating study.
