Abstract The development of efficient, cost-effective bioreactor systems is pivotal in biotechnological processes involving the production microbial products like pharmaceuticals, bio-fuels, and protein-rich biomass. Many models are commercially available all industries; however, prices usually exorbitant, making them inaccessible to low-budget research, schools, start-up companies. This article introduces a low-cost, DIY modular LSF system intended cultivate filamentous fungi other microorganisms following minimalist bubble column approach. Using standard sanitary tri-clamp (TC) fittings common hygienic industries household brewing setups, this assembly offers an affordable, adaptable, reparable, robust solution for at fraction cost commercial alternatives. In addition, wide range budget-friendly sensors controllers can be integrated monitor automate key parameters, these bioreactors equally accessible functional. concept unique its scalability customization possibilities, significantly reducing research prototyping costs.

The increasing size of the human population and shortage highly valuable proteinaceous ingredients has prompted international community to scout for new, sustainable, natural protein resources from invertebrates (e.g., insects) underutilized legume crops, unexploited terrestrial aquatic weeds, fungi. Insect proteins are known their nutritional value, being rich in with a good balance essential amino acids source fatty trace elements. Unconventional crops were found nutritional, phytochemical, therapeutic properties, showing excellent abilities survive extreme environmental conditions. This review evaluates recent state fungi, insects intended as alternative sources, ingredient production incorporation food products, including formulations functional characteristics plant-based edible insect novel foods. Emphasis is also placed on safety issues due presence anti-nutritional factors allergenic and/or legumes. biological activities hydrolysates different sources reviewed, along bioactive peptides displaying antihypertensive, antioxidant, antidiabetic, antimicrobial activity. Due healthy properties these foods high abundance phytochemicals, more consumers expected turn vegetarianism or veganism future, demand such products will be challenge future.

The global leather industry has been at the receiving end of various environmental and ethical backlash as it mainly relies on animal agriculture which contributes to deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, welfare concerns. In addition, processing hides into generates a huge amount toxic chemicals, ultimately get released environment. Thus, growing concern for sustainability led exploration alternative materials conventional animal- based leather. this regard, application fungal alternatives in material technology is gaining traction because its high biodegradability, biocompatibility, renewability, well affordable carbon-neutral growth processes. Fungal have found possess significant mechanical physical properties, thanks interwoven hyphal network mycelium, antimicrobial activities ascribed their bioactive metabolites. Various species, including those from Agaricus, Fomes, Ganoderma, Phellinus, Pleutorus genera, are currently being investigated potential area. This review, therefore, attempts gain insights recent advances scientific research real-world applications fungal-derived like materials. It makes compelling case sustainable discusses morphology-property relationship mycelium driving innovation. Additionally, current methods major players substitute presented. paper also brings attention challenges facing full deployment substitutes proposes solutions with aim encouraging further resource mobilization acceptance renewable substitute.

The demand for cheap, healthy, and sustainable alternative protein sources has turned research interest into microbial proteins. Mycoproteins prevail due to their quite balanced amino acid profile, low carbon footprint high sustainability potential. goal of this was investigate the capability Pleurotus ostreatus metabolize main sugars agro-industrial side streams, such as aspen wood chips hydrolysate, produce high-value with cost. Our results indicate that P. LGAM 1123 could be cultivated both in a C-6 (glucose)- C-5(xylose)-sugar-containing medium mycoprotein production. A mixture glucose xylose found ideal biomass production content rich profile. cultivation 4 L stirred-tank bioreactor using hydrolysate achieved 25.0 ± 3.4 g L−1 production, 1.8 0.4 d−1 specific growth rate yield 54.5 0.5% (g/100 sugars). PCA analysis acids revealed strong correlation between composition produced ratios culture medium. high-nutrient by submerged fermentation edible fungus hydrolysates is promising bioprocess food feed industry.

Abstract Edible mushrooms are highly valued for both their culinary and medicinal properties. Unlike traditional condiments, the complex flavor of is not determined by a single component, but rather potential synergistic actions several different components chemical interactions. However, only limited number edible mushroom compounds have been examined in detail, leading to an incomplete understanding overall profile. To address this knowledge gap, it necessary conduct further scientific research on flavors maximize utilization. This review aims provide comprehensive overview substances found mushrooms, including volatile nonvolatile compounds, as well mechanisms which various processing methods affect flavor. Additionally, we will explore factors that hinder development recommend strategies advance technological theoretical these unique valuable food ingredients. In summary, enhancing our profile can better leverage full resource.

The global demand for good quality food is going to be increased gradually. Mushrooms are broadly used as healthy nutritious meals. nutritional values of extracts from four distinct Pleurotus species-Pleurotus ostreatus, sajor-caju, sapidus, and columbinus-were determined in the current study. Firstly, proximate analysis selected species was performed followed by Bradford assay analyze protein spectrophotometrically; high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) sugar determination while GC-MS done determine fatty acids on organic mushrooms. Descriptive statistics were calculate percentages significance SPSS statistics. results depicted that fat, protein, ash, fiber, energy contents, total carbohydrate range 0.64-2.02%, 16.07-25.15%, 2.1-9.14%, 6.21-54.12%, 342.20-394.30 kcal/100 g, 65.66-82.47%, respectively. protein's maximum concentration observed P. ostreatus columbinus>P. sajor-caju>P. sequentially. Various sugars may or not present spps. Among acids, prevalence UFA more than saturated among all From this study, it concluded have excellent composition can valuable a great source biochemical compounds.
