As COVID-19 pandemic spread all over the world, it brought serious health consequences in every medical field, including mental health. Not only healthcare professionals were more prone to develop anxiety, depression, and stress, but general population suffered as well. Some of those who had no prior history a psychiatric disease developed peculiar symptoms following infection with SARS-CoV-2, mostly because psychological social issues triggered by pandemic. People traumatic memories, hypochondria, probably isolation stress. Infection SARS-CoV-2 has influenced patients well, exacerbating conditions. In this review, we focus on analyzing cases mania context bipolar disorder (BD) reported after disease, both people an exacerbation disease. Results have shown that may trigger pre-existing BD or unmask unknown BD, due influences (decreased interaction, change sleep patterns) through biological pathways (neuroinflammation neuroinvasion ACE-2 receptors expressed peripheral central nervous systems (PNS CNS respectively). No direct correlation was found between severity manic symptoms. All presenting severe diseases needed specific treatment, meaning they concur are separate treatment strategy needed. This review highlights importance now widespread viral potential agent unmasking mood disorder, can hopefully help physicians establishing rapid diagnosis pave road for future research neuroinflammation SARS-CoV-2.

Mitigation actions during the COVID-19 pandemic may impact mental health and suicide in general populations. Abstract As COVID-19 becomes endemic, identifying vulnerable population groups for severe infection outcomes and defining rapid effective preventive therapeutic strategies remains a public health priority. We performed an umbrella review, including comprehensive studies (meta-analyses systematic reviews) investigating risk infection, hospitalization, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, mortality in people with psychiatric disorders, outlined evidence- consensus-based recommendations overcoming potential barriers that patients may experience preventing managing COVID-19, optimal options current research priorities psychiatry. searched Web of Science, PubMed, Ovid/PsycINFO databases up to 17 January 2022 the review. synthesized evidence, extracting when available pooled odd ratio estimates categories “any mental disorder” “severe disorders.” The quality each study was assessed using AMSTAR-2 approach ranking evidence quality. identified four review/meta-analysis combinations, one meta-analysis, three reviews, 28 original studies. Although we rated from moderate low ranged highly suggestive non-significant, found consistent illness are at increased most importantly mortality, but not ICU admission. burden particular those illness, can no longer be ignored demands urgent targeted persistent action. Although COVID-19 has been associated with psychiatric symptoms in patients, no study to date examined the risk of hospitalization for disorders after this disease. We aimed compare proportions hospitalizations 12 months following either or another reason adult general population France during first wave current pandemic. We conducted a retrospective longitudinal nationwide based on national French administrative healthcare database.Among 2,894,088 adults hospitalized, 96,313 (3.32%) were admitted COVID-19. The proportion patients subsequently hospitalized disorder was higher (11.09 vs. 9.24%, OR = 1.20 95%CI 1.18-1.23). Multivariable analyses provided similar results any type and psychotic anxiety (respectively, aOR 1.06 1.04-1.09, 1.09 1.02-1.17, 1.11 1.08-1.14). Initial intensive care units history greater subsequent than initial reason.Compared other reasons, pandemic discharge. This finding should encourage clinicians increase monitoring assessment hospital discharge COVID-19, propose post-hospital care, especially those treated care.

Maladaptive cognitions appear to be associated with the severity of mood symptoms in bipolar disorder (BD), but findings are mixed and generally cross-sectional design. This study (n = 331) explored associations between maladaptive BD over time (3 months), potential mediating effect self-compassion cross-sectionally. Dysfunctional attitudes, perfectionism metacognitions were separately depressive manic symptoms, current state BD.The results showed only significant predictor depression at 3-month follow-up (β 0.31, p < .001), no relationship mania time. Cross-sectionally, partially mediated all depression, higher dysfunctional lower predicting increased symptoms. Only attitudes was by self-compassion, however, weak suggestive that predicted mania. The duration limited possible analysis. Future longitudinal research is needed. Also, sample not representative clinical population, making less generalisable. Additionally, regarding supports need for further into active during this phase BD.Maladaptive predictive future severity, therefore, exploration metacognitive therapy should explored. Furthermore, shown mediate negative mood, therefore compassion-based therapies

Few longitudinal studies have so far investigated the impact of sustained COVID-19 among people with pre-existing psychiatric disorders. We conducted a prospective study involving serious mental illness (n = 114) and healthy controls 41) to assess changes in Perceived Stress Scale, Generalized Anxiety Disorder Patient Health Questionnaire, Specific Psychotic Experiences Questionnaire scores 18 months after pandemic outset. Subjects underwent interviews health professional April 2020 at end local third wave (October 2021). A significant increase perceived stress was found controls, especially females. Psychiatric patients showed worsening anxiety symptoms compared baseline records (t -2.3, p 0.036). Patients who rejected vaccination had significantly higher paranoia those willing get vaccinated (U 649.5, z -2.02, 0.04). These findings indicate that COVID-19's emergency may cause enduring consequences on health, soliciting further investigations.
