Houttuynia cordata (H. cordata) is widely used in respiratory disease control as an important heat-clearing and detoxifying traditional Chinese medicine. It effectively clears away heat toxins, eliminates carbuncles, drains pus, it diuretic detoxicating. The aim of this study to review the botany, chemical composition, pharmacological effects, quality H. establish a better-quality evaluation system. Google Scholar, Baidu PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web Science, multiple databases, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) Wanfang Data, were searched. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a complex group of chronic intestinal diseases, the cause which has not yet been clarified, but it widely believed that disorder microenvironment and its related functional changes are key factors in development disease. Houttuynia cordata thunb. traditional plant with abundant resources long history utilization China, attracted widespread attention recent years due to potential treatment IBD. However, limited owing aristolochic acid alkaloids contained it. Therefore, based on relationship between IBD, this article summarizes mechanisms by main active ingredients thunb., such as volatile oils, polysaccharides, flavonoids, Chinese medicine preparations, Xiezhuo Jiedu Formula, alleviate IBD regulating microenvironment. At same time, combined current reports, medicinal edible safety explained for providing ideas further research chordate disease, more options patients, insights into therapeutic plants homology food even diseases.

Plant-derived exosome-like nanoparticles (PELNs) have received widespread attention in treating ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the role of Houttuynia cordata-derived (HELNs) UC remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate efficacy HELNs mice and investigate its potential mechanisms. were isolated from H. cordata for characterization, their safety stability evaluated. A dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mouse model was utilized assess therapeutic UC. In vivo, imaging flow cytometry targeting effect on inflamed colonic sites modulation immune environment.
