Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous in global ecosystems and may pose a potential risk to human health. However, critical information on MP exposure female reproductive health is still lacking. In this study, we characterized MPs endometrium investigated their size-dependent entry mode as well toxicity. Endometrial tissues of 22 patients were examined, revealing that was contaminated with MPs, mainly polyamide (PA), polyurethane (PU), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), (PE), ranging from 2–200 μm size. Experiments conducted mice demonstrated the invasion uterus by modulated either through diet–blood circulation (micrometer-sized particles) or via vagina–uterine lacuna (larger particles reaching size 100 μm. Intravenous resulted reduced fertility abnormal sex ratio mouse offspring (P < 0.05). After 3.5 months intragastric exposure, there significant inflammatory response 0.05), confirmed embryo transfer uterine factor leading decreased fertility. Furthermore, endometrial organoids cultured vitro exhibited significantly apoptotic responses disrupted growth patterns 0.01). These findings raise concerns regarding contamination its effects

Microplastics, as an emerging environmental pollutant, have received widespread attention for their potential impact on ecosystems and human health. Microplastics are defined plastic particles less than 5 millimeters in diameter can be categorized primary secondary microplastics. Primary microplastics usually originate directly from industrial production, while formed by the degradation of larger items. capable triggering cytotoxicity chronic inflammation, may promote cancer through mechanisms such pro-inflammatory responses, oxidative stress endocrine disruption. In addition, improved bring new perspectives to therapy, studies drug carriers underway, showing high targeting bioavailability. Although current suggest association between certain cancers (e.g., lung, liver, breast cancers), long-term effects specific still need studied. This review aimed at exploring carcinogenicity promising applications therapy provides important directions future research emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration address this global health challenge.

In recent years, microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have caused ubiquitous environmental pollution raised widespread concern about their potential toxicity to human health, especially in the reproductive system. Moreover, infertility affects >15 % of couples worldwide, birth rate is decreasing. Environmental factors are some most important causes infertility. However, little known effects MPs NPs on testes ovaries. These particles can enter body primarily via ingestion, inhalation, skin contact, target system a size-dependent manner disturb germ cell other somatic development. Our study systematically reviewed adverse plastic function offers valuable insights into different stages cells mechanisms. synergistic these carried contaminants was summarized. Given limited research scale, shift toward innovative technologies adoption multiple omics recommended for advancing related studies. Further needed explore based size, polymer type, shape, toxins, establish effective protective measures, develop precision medicine targeted damage.
