The study focuses on the abundance and characteristics of ubiquitous microplastic (MP) pollutants in different natural molluscan settling sites along southwest coast India. It assesses its bioavailability within tissue selected locally abundant edible bivalves gastropods viz., Villorita cyprinoides, Paphia malabarica, Crassostrea madrasensis, Perna perna, Babylonia spirata. mean MP was found to be 140.83±32.62 items/L water, 270.56±102.48 items/kg sediment 15.33 ± 15.56 MP/g soft samples. Transparent blue-coloured fibres size >500 µm, primarily comprising polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, low-density polyamide, polyester, polyvinyl chloride polyethylene terephthalate, were most dominant forms MPs. Interestingly, except for spirata, a negative correlation has been observed between morphometric all studied species. Hence, pre-emptive measures are needed reduce load by employing effective bioremediations ensure food safety.

Abstract In the realm of global economy, agriculture holds a prominent status, acting as vital source employment and revenue for nations. Despite its crucial role, agricultural sector contends with recurrent annual losses attributable to market fluctuations. One noteworthy contributor decline in productivity is adverse impact microplastics (MPs). This study aims estimate production suffered by key crops—rice, wheat, maize, tomato, peas—due MPs, along resulting economic consequences arising from direct damage inflicted MPs. To assess caused secondary data diverse sources were employed five plant varieties.
