Families of children with neurodevelopmental disorders have developmental, behavioral, and social-emotional needs that affect quality life (QoL). The main goal of our research was to monitor changes in the mental health Slovak families with children autism spectrum disorder (ASD) compared neurotypical during three waves COVID-19 pandemic. We focused on prevalence depression, anxiety, stress and different stressors parents. In children, we explored maladaptive behavior availability interventions for ASD. data were collected using an extensive questionnaire including Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale-42 (DASS-42) two subscales Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (VABS-3). sample consisted a total 506 parents, 236 whom have child Parents ASD reported elevated anxiety first wave, while found parents children. COVID-19 Pandemic Impacts on Behavioral and Emotional Health of Young Children With Autism DOI Creative Commons

ObjectiveTo test our initial hypotheses that the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with: (1) decreases in adaptive behavior and increases behavioral emotional problems of children with autism; (2) greater impacts for those who lost specialty services; (3) autism versus control participants.MethodEligible participants (N=1,158) enrolled Phase 3 multi-site, case-control Study to Explore Early Development (SEED) prior March 31, 2020, between 2-5 years old completed follow-up assessments January-July 2021. Caregivers a Impact Assessment Questionnaire, Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales (VABS), Child Checklist (CBCL) 274 385 participants.ResultsMean VABS communication scores decreased significantly (-4.2; standard deviation [SD], 10.5) pre-pandemic periods, while composite (+2.0; SD, 9.0), daily living (+5.5; 11.4), socialization (+2.3; 10.0), CBCL (-3.2; 8.4) improved. In contrast, worsened population (+3.4; 8.8). Children missed appointments scored lower on during did not (VABS Composite 70.6; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 68.8-72.4 vs. 74.5; CI: 71.8-77.2).ConclusionWhile stay-at-home policies may have beneficially impacted skills, socialization, wellbeing autism, benefits occurred at cost skills.
