billion
tons

municipal
solid
waste
(MSW)
each
year,
which
33%
is
not
managed
properly.
This
demonstrates
urgent
need
for
strategies
to
address
growing
rate
MSW
generation
worldwide.
Municipal
collection,
treatment
and
final
deposition
are
among
important
issues
in
agendas
public
administration.
Brazil,

other
developing
countries

Abstract
Global
solid
waste
generation
is
expected
to
double
by
2050
from
the
present
annual
level
of
2.01
metric
ton.
Traditional
biowaste
treatment
methods,
such
as
landfilling
and
incineration,
cannot
meet
need
deal
with
gigantic
amounts
reduce
environmental
harm.
This
review
critically
evaluates
existing
sustainable
management
strategies
highlighting
their
role
in
transitioning
a
“reuse
recovery”
paradigm.
Sustainable

current

using
