Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) can be defined as solutions based on natural processes that meet societal challenges and simultaneously provide human well-being biodiversity benefits. These are envisioned to contribute operationalizing sustainable development strategies, especially in the context of adaptation climate change (e.g. flood risk reduction). In order quantify NBS performance, ease their uptake advocate for them alternatives "business-as-usual" infrastructures, a comprehensive, holistic valuation multiple benefits (multiple advantages disadvantages) is needed. This entails quantifying non-market people nature addition determining (direct) cost-benefit risk-reduction measure. Despite importance given assessment non-tangible literature, systematic data collection these dimensions seems missing. study reviews publications used stated preference methods assess NBS-like strategies. Its aim highlight any biases or knowledge gaps this kind evaluation. Our results show increased recreation well-being, enhanced biodiversity) still suffers from lack common framing. some steps being taken enabling interconnected benefit assessments, unexploited opportunities concerning integrated predominate. Moreover, research to-date appears case-to-case approach, thus shared method does not emerge present potentially delaying NBS. We argue future could minimize missed by focusing systematically applying assessments. Methods surveys may help ensure approaches taken, well contributing replicability application when upscaling • Review studies using Current literature relates "non-NBS-specific" methods. Replicability up-scaling prioritized. Integration often considered Future should focus replicable quantification.

Climate change threatens urban areas globally. Enhancing resilience is crucial, yet the comprehensive clustering of practical climate adaptation measures for use in construction industry decision-making notably absent. This study investigates and categorizes various measures, justifying each through a lens risk management, asset previous scientific work. It takes advantage innovative digital platform Netobra, which offers an ecosystem industry, to provide real-world, implications these measures. Informed by Urban Resilience Evaluation System, ISO 31000 (risk management), 55000 (asset sets out demonstrate value bolstering improving industry. Moreover, integrates hotspot detection mechanism at high impacts, using multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA)—analytic hierarchy process (AHP) mapping on Netobra. These identified hotspots corresponding will further be incorporated into Risk-Informed Asset-Centric (RIACT) process, providing valuable insights mitigation strategies development. Through its in-depth analysis, aims contribute understanding how diverse can practically applied sectors, thereby enhancing effective management.

The concept of nature-based solutions (NbS) has been endorsed by multiple international organizations as one the priority approaches to address climate-related challenges. These are versatile, and can simultaneously challenges such climate impacts, public health, inequality, biodiversity crisis, being uniquely suited for urban adaptation. NbS particularly relevant in developing world, where strategies should be self-reliant possible, reducing need technological processes that require expensive complex maintenance. also promote political, societal, cultural, ultimately, systems change. purpose this paper is present a literature review on use adaptation, identifying main opportunities, challenges, and, most specifically, knowledge gaps, which addressed subsequent research. identifies four types gaps adaptation: future uncertainty, lack site-specific technical design criteria, governance strategies, effectiveness assessment evaluation. To overcome local governments’ limitations, specific implementation structures considered, centered transfer within transdisciplinary participatory framework. developed partnership with planning entities, seeking consolidate these policies support social resilience institutional capacity. Therefore, adaptation initiated pilot projects urgency implementation, while allowing practices time adjust, building capacity at level, filling through effectiveness. climate-resilience tree species adequate was identified gap NbS.

Abstract The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted lives and the economy, reminding global community of devastating health economic impacts uncontrolled infectious disease. It affected how where people live, work, shop, play, exposed our cities’ vulnerabilities, leading to calls for a lens be applied in designing, approving, evaluating city plans. Socioeconomic, spatial inequities have been amplified, particularly those living inadequate or poorly designed housing, neighbourhoods, cities. Hence, mayors committed ‘build back better’ with all daily amenities within 15-min walking cycling trip. Designed well, these cities potential healthier, more sustainable, equitable, resilient. Yet their delivery requires rethink planning. Drawing on lessons from pandemic, we argue that reduce risk future pandemics, must mitigate climate change, limit urban expansion, use nature-based solutions protect natural habitats biodiversity. We then explore healthy, resilient 15-minute could planned emissions ensure are event crises. Given higher density housing underpins success cities, also examine create stock, through well-implemented health-supportive apartment design standards. Finally, achieve this, cross-sector leadership investment will vital.

As result systematic literature review, this develops theoretical framework five stages generic iterative process with feedback. Climate change impacts vary wildly across different geographical contexts and their effects are primarily felt on the local level, generating demand for solutions. The level plays a key role in adaptation to climate change. Nevertheless, most European countries has yet be integrated comprehensively into policy agendas. To further our understanding of this slow pace progress, we study 21 Swiss Alpine municipalities exposed variety natural hazards issues exacerbated by impacts. Building established research hazard management adaptation, expect four factors play decisive roles, either own or combination with each other: Past extreme events, risk exposure, perceived existing policies at superordinate levels. We test these expectations using qualitative comparative analysis (QCA). find that significant past events high come close being necessary conditions measures. High its is also sufficient condition measures taken while absence no taken. Thus, importance perception exceeds expectation as it clearly been revealed important factor. Future should focus disentangling levels public investigate acceptance among actor groups decisions.
