Mangroves are a globally important ecosystem that provides wide range of system services, such as carbon capture and storage, coastal protection fisheries enhancement. have significantly reduced in global extent over the last 50 years, primarily result deforestation caused by expansion agriculture aquaculture environments. However, limited number studies attempted to estimate changes mangrove extent, particularly into 1990s, despite much loss occurring pre-2000. We identified 14 emerging and poorly understood threats opportunities for addressing the global conservation of freshwater mussels over next decade. A panel 17 researchers stakeholders from six continents submitted a total 56 topics that were ranked prioritized using consensus-building Delphi technique. Our priority fell into five broad themes (autecology, population dynamics, stressors, diversity, ecosystem services) included understanding diets throughout mussel life history; identifying drivers declines; defining metrics quantifying health; assessing role predators, parasites, disease; informed guidance on risks captive breeding translocations; loss mussel-fish co-evolutionary relationships; effects increasing surface water changes; sand aggregate mining; drug pollution other contaminants such as nanomaterials; appreciating arising river restoration; conserving understudied hotspots by building local capacity through principles decolonization; appropriate taxonomic units conservation; improved quantification services provided mussels; how many are enough to provide these services. Solutions ranged ecological studies technological advances socio-political engagement. Prioritization our can help drive proactive approach this declining group which provides multitude important

Thousands of oil and gas structures have been installed in the world's oceans over past 70 years to meet population's reliance on hydrocarbons. Over last decade, there has increased concern how handle decommissioning this infrastructure when it reaches end its operational life. Complete or partial removal may not present best option considering potential impacts environment, society, technical feasibility, economy, future asset liability. Re-purposing offshore also be a valid legal under international maritime law where robust evidence exists support option. Given complex nature infrastructure, global horizon scan was undertaken, eliciting input from an interdisciplinary cohort 35 experts develop top ten priority research needs further inform decisions advance our understanding their impacts. The highest priorities included: (1) assessment contaminants acceptable environmental limits reduce for ecological harm; (2) defining risk acceptability thresholds policy/governance; (3) characterising liability issues ongoing costs responsibility; (4) quantification ecosystem services. remaining (5) quantifying connectivity; (6) assessing marine life productivity; (7) determining feasibility re-use; (8) identification stakeholder views values; (9) greenhouse emissions; (10) developing transdisciplinary decision-making process. Addressing these will help policy development governance frameworks provide industry stakeholders with clearer path forward decommissioning. principles framework developed paper are equally applicable informing responsible renewable energy particular wind turbines, field that is accelerating rapidly.

Over the past quarter century, environmental DNA (eDNA) has been ascendant as a tool to detect, measure, and monitor biodiversity (species communities), means of elucidating biological interaction networks, window into understanding patterns biodiversity. However, only recently potential eDNA realized in botanical world. Here we synthesize state applications systems with emphases on aquatic, ancient, contemporary sediment, airborne systems, focusing both single-species approaches multispecies community metabarcoding. Further, describe how abiotic biotic factors, taxonomic resolution, primer choice, spatiotemporal scales, relative abundance influence utilization interpretation results. Lastly, explore several areas opportunities for further development tools plants, advancing our knowledge efficacy, utility, cost-effectiveness, ultimately facilitating increased adoption analyses systems.
