Parenting interventions based on social learning theory have received extensive empirical support in the treatment of child conduct problems; yet, they fail to produce lasting gains as many a third cases. Perspectives these poor outcomes been informed by numerous lines research, and practitioner recommendations for improving such often emphasized processes related clinical engagement. In this Practitioner Review, we examine recent evidence pertaining processes, including emerging research into therapeutic relationship across face-to-face eHealth modalities, engagement both mothers fathers. The concept resistance change is examined light developments, it argued that process overcoming can be characterized one reflective practice. A novel model perspective presented, comprising practical strategies are designed initiated from earliest contacts with family build another treatment.

Embedding effective parent training programmes for the treatment of childhood conduct problems into routine clinical practice does not happen spontaneously. Despite known influence contextual factors on implementation success, and centrality therapist as a key stakeholder, studies experience receiving in, implementing evidence-based manualised are relatively rare. This study sought to understand post-training experiences Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) therapists in New Zealand, compare contrast these with existing research PCIT trainees Netherlands (i.e., Niec et al., 2018) Fifty-six (a response rate 67%) completed an anonymous online survey their subsequently Zealand. Qualitative quantitative analyses indicated that experienced barriers implementation, both internal ("burdened") external ("blocked") yet typically persisted efforts. Importance

Exposure to adverse childhood experiences substantially increases the risk of chronic health problems. Originally designed treat child conduct problems, parent management training programs have been shown be effective in preventing children from being exposed further adversity and supporting children's recovery adversity; however, there are increasing concerns that a core component these programs, discipline strategy time-out, may harmful for with history exposure adversity.

Objective

To investigate comparative benefits potential harms associated parenting include time-out.

Design, Setting, Participants

This nonrandomized waiting list–controlled clinical study was conducted at specialist clinic treatment problems Sydney, Australia. The self-referred sample included their caregivers. Eligibility confirmed through clinician-administered interviews. Data were collected between February 14, 2018, 1, 2021.

Interventions

Caregivers participated 10-session, social learning–based program. provided strategies aimed encouraging desired behaviors reinforcement managing misbehavior consistent limit setting, including use time-outs.

Main Outcomes Measures

primary outcome parent-reported Strengths Difficulties Questionnaire score, secondary outcomes subscale scores Diagnostic Interview Schedule Children, Adolescents, Parents. Multi-informant measures using Adverse Life Experiences Scale clinician-rated Maltreatment Index.

Results

A total 205 analysis (156 full intervention 49 control condition; 158 boys [77.1%]; mean [SD] age, 5.6 [1.8] years [range, 2-9 years]). Compared low exposure, high showed greater reductions score baseline (mean difference, 3.46 [95% CI, 1.51-5.41];P < .001) after 1.49 −0.46 3.44];P = .13) internalizing symptom (baseline 1.00 −2,00 0.00];P .50; posttreatment 0.06 −0.82 0.94];P .90). No significant differences externalizing found.
