Everyday life is defined by goal states that are continuously reprioritized based on available, often affective information. To pursue these goals, individuals need to process and maintain goal-relevant information, while ignoring potentially salient information distracts resources from goals. Empirically, this ability has typically been operationalized as working memory (WM) capacity. A growing body of research investigating the impact information’s salience WM In present review we address question exploring potential differential compared with neutral WM, underlying neural substrates. Research in the past decade has highlighted nuances of adolescent decision making. In this review article, we summarize several themes evident field developmental science including redefinition adolescence and ways which decision-making capabilities converge with or diverge from those adults. While process is similar for adolescents adults contexts that encourage deliberation reflection, differ preclude vis-à-vis high emotional arousal. We also discuss reconceptualization behavior, risk taking, as adaptive. That is, characteristics adolescence, impulsivity, importance peers, novelty seeking, are normative, evolutionarily advantageous, essential positive development. these features manifest negative, health-compromising (e.g., risky driving criminal behavior), they foster growth exploration. conclude a discussion potential avenues future research.

Background Difficulties in emotion regulation are common adolescence and associated with poor social mental health outcomes. However, psychological therapies that promote adaptive may be inaccessible unattractive to youth. Digital interventions help address this need. Objective The aim of systematic review meta-analysis was synthesize evidence on the efficacy, feasibility, acceptability digital children early adolescents aged 8 14 years. Methods Systematic searches Web Science, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Education Resources Information Centre, ACM Library, IEEE Xplore up July 2020 identified 39 studies, which 11 (28%) were included meta-analyses (n=2476 participants). A bespoke tool used assess risk bias. Results studies evaluated games (27/39, 69%), biofeedback (4/39, 10%), virtual or augmented reality program multimedia 10%) samples classified as diagnosed, at risk, healthy, universal. most consistent came from games, reduced negative emotional experience a small significant effect, largely youth anxiety (Hedges g=–0.19, 95% CI –0.34 –0.04). In general, tended improve regulation, but effect not g=0.19, –0.16 0.54). Conclusions Most feasibility issues diagnosed youth, generally high across intervention types samples. Although there is cause optimistic about supporting difficulties predominance early-stage development highlights need for more work area.

Well-tuned emotional regulation is fundamental for human life and psychological well-being. Negative physiological emotions are counterbalanced by positive ones, this equilibrium the mainstay of affective states. However, mechanism may sometimes become dysfunctional when negative not correctly counterbalanced, causing maladaptive behaviors, especially during adolescence. A very interesting review Young et al. was recently published (Brain Sci.2019, 9(4), 76) stimulated us to reflect on topic. The screening disturbances dysregulation in adolescents must be included all preventive interventional programs aimed achieve both physical well-being population early intervention should provided order avoid progression toward clinically relevant psychiatric disorders late adolescence adulthood.

The widespread diffusion of screen-based devices in adolescence has fueled a debate about the beneficial and detrimental effects on adolescents' well-being development. With aim summarizing existing literature associations between screen time (including Internet-related addictions) adolescent brain development, present scoping review summarized evidence from 16 task-unrelated task-related neuroimaging studies, published 2010 2020. Results highlight three important key messages: (i) frequent longer duration media consumption addictive behaviors) is related to less efficient cognitive control system adolescence, including areas Default Mode Network Central Executive Network; (ii) online activities act as strong rewards repeated augments tendency seek short-term gratifications; (iii) neuroscientific research correlates development still at beginning urgent need for further evidence, especially underlying causality mechanisms. Methodological, theoretical, conceptual implications are discussed.
