Abstract Climate change is drastically altering the frequency, duration, and severity of compound drought‐heatwave (CDHW) episodes, which present a new challenge in environmental socioeconomic sectors. These threats are particular importance low‐income regions with growing populations, fragile infrastructure, threatened ecosystems. This review synthesizes emerging progress understanding CDHW patterns Brazil while providing insights about impacts on fire occurrence public health. Evidence mounting that heatwaves becoming increasingly linked droughts northeastern southeastern Brazil, Amazonia, Pantanal. In those regions, recent studies have begun to build better physical mechanisms behind events, such as soil moisture–atmosphere coupling, promoted by exceptional atmospheric blocking conditions. Results hint at synergy between events high activity country over last decades, most example being catastrophic 2020 fires Moreover, we show HWs were responsible for increasing mortality preterm births during record‐breaking Brazil. work paves way more in‐depth their impacts, crucial enhance adaptive capacity different Brazilian

Although many studies have reported the mortality effect of temperature, there were few on risk humidity, let alone joint temperature and humidity. This study aimed to investigate interaction high relative humidity in China, which will deepen understanding health mixture climate exposure. The meteorological data collected from 353 locations China (2013–2017 Jilin, Hunan, Guangdong Yunnan provinces, 2009–2017 Zhejiang province, 2006–2011 other Provinces). We defined location-specific daily mean ≥ 75th percentile distribution as while minimum threshold A time-series model with a distributed lag non-linear was first employed estimate associations between humid-hot events mortality, then we conducted meta-analysis pool events. Finally, an additive used examine interactive excess rate (ER) non-accidental attributed dry-hot 10.18% (95% confidence interval (CI): 8.93%, 11.45%), higher than that wet-hot (ER = 3.21%, 95% CI: 0.59%, 5.89%). attributable fraction (AF) 10.00% 9.50%, 10.72%) burden for females, older people, central cardiovascular diseases urban city. While events, AF much lower (3.31%, 2.60%, 4.30%). also found low had synergistic risk. Dry-hot may be greater sum their individual effects.

Our systematic review presents a systems understanding of the nexus between drought antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence in HIV-positive individuals African setting. Narrative synthesis 111 studies retrieved from Web Science, PubMed/MEDLINE, PsycINFO suggests that livelihoods economic conditions, comorbidities ART regimens, mobility, psychobehavioural dispositions support interact complex ways drought–ART Africa. Economic livelihood-related challenges appear impose strongest impact on interactions, actions, culminate non-adherence. Indeed, pathways identified by our approach emphasise need for more integrated research approaches this phenomenon developing interventions.
