Purpose As a sociotechnical system, the metaverse has sparked heated discussion. However, concerns abound that concept is “old wine in new bottle” used for capital hype. The mixed definitions of and unclear relationships between its technical features user behaviors have greatly impeded design application. Therefore, authors aim to sort out definition properties, analyze various contexts unveil mechanisms leading behaviors. This article presents a summary of the prior studies on use metaverse in sector education using systematic literature review. The bibliometric analysis this study is used to analyse published works order pinpoint leading experts field, important subtopics, and potential research prospects. We also identify most significant articles as well patterns clusters related subjects. Our main findings showed that three phrases "education," "application," "metaverse" occurred frequently were connected one another. part shows concepts such "challenge," "teaching," "knowledge" have not been thoroughly researched. emphasises significance appropriate learning settings, class layouts, development didactic strategies, teacher preparation programmes. Abstract The Metaverse, an interconnected, immersive, and persistent multi-user environment blending physical digital realities, has transformative potential for society but also poses significant risks individuals, businesses, the environment. This study addresses research gap in understanding these multifaceted implications by employing integrated approach. Initially, a literature review explores opportunities presented Metaverse.
