Objectives This study aims to systematically review the existing literature and critically appraise evidence of genome-wide association studies (GWAS) on periodontitis. also synthesise findings genetic risk variants periodontitis from included GWAS. Methods A systematic search was conducted PubMed, GWAS Catalog, MEDLINE, GLOBAL HEALTH EMBASE via Ovid for Only exploring single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) associated with were eligible inclusion. The quality assessed using Q-genie tool. Information such as population, ethnicity, genomic data source, phenotypic characteristics(definition periodontitis), methods(quality control, analysis stages) extracted. SNPs that reached conventional or suggestive significance level(5e-8 5e-06) extracted synthesized. Results total 15 good-quality (Q-genie scores ranged 38–50). There huge heterogeneities among studies. 11 identified (rs242016, rs242014, rs10491972, rs242002, rs2978951, rs2738058, rs4284742, rs729876, rs149133391, rs1537415, rs12461706) at significant level ( p<5x10 -8 ), 41 -6 but no common found between Three (rs4284742 [G], rs11084095 [A], rs12461706 [T]) three large same gene region–SIGLEC5. Conclusion showed high heterogeneity methodology used provided limited statistics, making identifying reliable challenging. clear guidance in dental research requirement expectation make statistics available other investigators are needed.

Previous studies have shown associations between periodontal disease and age-related cognitive impairment. However, little is known about the different functions that may be affected in patients with disease. We reviewed recent literature to better understand bidirectional relationship function disease, explore assessments useful when investigating this relationship. also around improving health older adults presenting impairment, which improve their cognition. There a found visuospatial function, attention, memory, language are important domains impaired people possibly because these factors associated ability adequately brush one's teeth. Furthermore, we noted choice of assessment particularly studying relation health. To partner-assisted interventions, adequate toothbrushing, use powered toothbrush all been proposed. Life expectancy has increased globally, leading to a higher proportion of older adults, particularly in developed countries like Canada. This demographic shift strains healthcare systems and is associated with an risk dementia, condition characterised by cognitive decline. Oral health emerged as potential modifiable factor for yet the evidence remains conflicting. study examines association between oral parameters functioning Canadian population, utilizing data from Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). A cross-sectional analysis was conducted using baseline comprehensive cohort CLSA, comprising 30,097 participants aged 45-85 years. assessed via self-reported (SROH) masticatory ability (MA). Cognitive function evaluated battery neuropsychological tests, Impairment Indicator (CII) derived. Logistic regression models were employed examine impairment, adjusting confounders. We found that poor SROH not significantly impairment (OR = 1.19, 95% CI 0.63-2.09), while inadequate MA odds 2.82, 1.82-4.25). The findings suggest significant perceived within this population. These results chew could be potentially Further research warranted explore mechanisms underlying these associations develop targeted preventive strategies. paper highlights middle elderly Canadians have 2.82 times experiencing impairment. Addressing chewing difficulties may serve early decline, offering window opportunity slow down process decline among aging populations.

Background Limited attention has been given to oral health challenges faced by older Indigenous populations, especially in rural settings, where disparities exist. This study aims assess a Mapuche community southern Chile, utilizing geriatric technology support, and exploring the connection between well-being fill gap this context. Methods A cross-sectional was conducted involving 76 independent adults from who required dental care. Assessments were remote care setting gathering extensive data including comprehensive assessments, medical conditions using teledentistry platform (TEGO ® ). Statistical analysis involved descriptive analysis, logistic regression, both multiple correspondence k-means cluster analysis. Results The sample comprised individuals with limited formal education high degree of vulnerability. Geriatric assessments unveiled cognitive deterioration, frailty, depression risk, multimorbidity. distribution DMFT index, number remaining teeth, occluding pairs, teeth restorative needs other relevant clinical findings based on sociodemographic, medical-geriatric-dental characteristics, additionally, Multinomial Logistic Regression Analysis Dentition Variables Relation performed. burden substantial, an average index 25.96 (SD 4.38), prevalence non-functional dentition (89.3%), periodontal disease (83%), xerostomia (63.2%) mucosal lesions (31.5%). Age, lower education, depression, daily medication sugary consumption frequency associated decreased ( p < 0.05). Multiple identified 4 clusters, edentulous functional groups being most distinct. Conclusion uncovers substantial intricate medical-geriatric interlinked among Chilean community. implementation technological ecosystem enabled resolution less complex issues facilitated consultations specialists, reducing necessity for travel centers. underscores need innovative public initiatives address improve overall adults.
