Abstract Plants' response to pathogens is highly complex and involves changes at different levels, such as activation or repression of a vast array genes. Recently, many studies have demonstrated that RNAs, especially small RNAs (sRNAs), are involved in genetic expression reprogramming affecting plant–pathogen interactions. The sRNAs, including short interfering microRNAs, noncoding RNA with 18–30 nucleotides, recognized key epigenetic regulators. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a vital role in variety of biological functions plant growth and development. In this study, we provided an overview the molecular mechanisms lncRNAs interacting with other biomolecules emphasis on those validated only by low-throughput experiments. LncRNAs function through playing multiple roles, including sponger for sequestering RNA or DNA, guider decoy recruiting hijacking transcription factors peptides, scaffold binding chromatin modification complexes, as well precursor microRNAs small interfering RNAs. These regulatory roles have been several species comprehensive list 73 lncRNA-molecule interaction pairs 16 found so far, suggesting their commonality kingdom. Such initial findings number functional represent beginning what is to come unknown were orders magnitude more than proteins.
