The study of urban greenspaces typically relies on three types data: people's subjective perceptions collected via questionnaires, vegetation indices derived from satellite imagery, such as the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Land Use or Cover maps, OpenStreetMap (OSM). Data are essential when researching human activities, yet they scale poorly. NDVI OSM data, other hand, freely available worldwide, thus valuable for assessing cities at prioritizing locations interventions. However, it is unclear how effectively data capture visual greenspaces. In this work, we collect public spaces in major European through crowdsourcing, quantitatively compare them to qualitatively investigate disparities. We found that moderately correlates with perceived greenness not only but also pocket parks play often considered green. Furthermore, correspond best small radius distances larger combining can improve identification places commonly Our qualitative analysis revealed configuration variety vegetation, presence natural built-up features, influence greenspace. With our findings aim help researchers practitioners make more informed decisions collecting greenspace their specific context, ultimately contributing green environments reflect perspectives.

Rates of living alone, especially in more urbanised areas, are increasing across many industrialised countries, with associated increases feelings loneliness and poorer mental health. Recent studies have suggested that access to nature (e.g. parks green spaces) can reduce the stressors loneliness, partly through providing opportunities nurture personal relationships (relational restoration) engage normative community activities (collective restoration). Such associations might vary different household compositions socio-demographic or geographical characteristics, but these not been thoroughly tested. Using data collected 18 countries/territories 2017-2018, we grouped urban respondents into those alone (n = 2062) a partner 6218). multigroup path modelling, tested whether between neighbourhood greenspace coverage (1-km-buffer from home) health sequentially mediated by: (a) visits greenspace; subsequently (b) relationship and/or satisfaction, as operationalisations relational collective restoration, respectively. We also any indirect varied among subgroups alone. Analyses showed visiting space was greater well-being marginally lower odds using anxiety/depression medication use indirectly, via both satisfaction. These were equally strong partner. Neighbourhood was, additionally, partner, whereas this sensitive metric. Within people few overall differences found. Some pathways were, nevertheless, stronger males, under 60-year-olds, no financial strain, residents warmer climates. In conclusion, supporting well frequently their local greenspaces could help improve promoting restoration.

Outdoor tourism can provide nature therapies. Implementation research for mental healthcare aims to establish psychological mechanisms and specify designs, doses durations medical trials. As one component, we tested simultaneous links from senses emotions, emotions self-perceived wellbeing, 524 tourists at 27 forest reserves in China. We used quantitative surveys, person, with: 5-point Likert-type scales measure links; free-text descriptions of their most memorable sensory emotional experiences during these visits; 7-item Personal Wellbeing Index (PWI) 10-item Kessler stress index (K10) health wellbeing. found that Chinese perceive strongly (p < 0.00001) drive determine Senses reported were: sight by 86%, sound 36%, smell 41%, touch 18%, temperature 42%, humidity 20%. The number engaged ranged 1, 39%, 6, 9%. K10 stress-reduction wellbeing was significantly = 0.0272) but weakly (R2 0.009) correlated with the engaged. Future on benefits outdoor tourists, tourist choreography tour guides trail signs, should therefore focus intensity emotions.

According to the hygiene and biodiversity hypotheses, frequent exposure environmental microbiota, especially through soil contact, diversifies commensal enhances immune modulation, ultimately lowers risk of immune-mediated diseases. Here we test underlying assumption hypotheses by instructing volunteers grow edible plants indoors during winter season when natural microbiota is low. The one-month randomized, placebo-controlled double-blind trial consisted two treatments: participants received either microbially diverse growing medium or visually similar but poor medium. Skin a panel seven markers were analyzed in beginning after one month. diversity five bacterial phyla (Bacteroidetes, Planctomycetes, Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, Verrucomicrobia) class (Bacteroidia) increased on skin intervention group while no changes observed placebo group. number nodes edges co-occurrence networks bacteria average three times more than plasma levels immunomodulatory cytokine interleukin 10 (IL-10) compared with A trend was 17A (IL-17A) IL-10:IL-17A ratios. This study develops a predictive model to assess the impacts of urban water blue visual index (BVI) and flow velocity on human brain states using EEG HRV data in virtual reality simulations. By integrating Gaussian process regression (GPR) artificial neural networks (ANN), accurately captures relationships between BVI, velocities, states, reflecting experimental observations with high precision. Applied across 31 provinces China, effectively predicted regional state levels, aligning closely birthplace distribution high-level talents, such as academicians Changjiang scholars. These results highlight model’s practical application optimizing features enhance mental health, cognitive performance, societal development.

Recent trends show a rise in stress and psychological disorders, necessitating innovative strategies for recovery. Our study examines the psychophysiological effects of virtual reality (VR) nature, based on biophilia hypothesis, within real-life group settings. A randomized, acute cross-over design was employed, involving 57 participants who experienced 10-min session either VR nature or reference room, separated by 2-min interval. Participants were measured groups 7–10 individuals. The setup featured landscape video projected around participants, creating captivating 3D environment, whereas room utilized same space but without elements, maintaining basic meeting atmosphere with white walls quiet setting. primary outcome heart rate variability (HRV), complemented exploratory outcomes including respiratory rates, questionnaires affective well-being, creativity, sense belonging. Findings revealed that exposure resulted higher HRV reduced rate, indicative enhanced parasympathetic activity. reported decreased feelings anxiety depression, an increase comfort, enthusiasm, These results present nature's physiological benefits, demonstrating its effectiveness promoting relaxation recovery In conclusion, can emerge as versatile tool alleviation well-being improvement.
