Malignant melanoma poses a significant global health burden. It is the most aggressive and lethal form of skin cancer, attributed to various risk factors such as UV radiation exposure, genetic modifications, chemical carcinogens, immunosuppression, fair complexion. Photodynamic therapy promising minimally invasive treatment that uses light activate photosensitizer, resulting in formation reactive oxygen species, which ultimately promote cell death. When selecting photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy, presence melanin should be considered. Melanin absorbs visible similar has antioxidant properties, undermines species generated processes. These characteristics have led further research new photosensitizing platforms ensure better results. The development advanced with use nanotechnology, plays crucial role enhancing solubility, optical absorption, tumour targeting. This paper reviews current approaches (that synergistic effect different photosensitizers, nanocarriers, chemotherapeutic agents) melanoma.
