The proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) tools has transformed numerous aspects daily life, yet its impact on critical thinking remains underexplored. This study investigates the relationship between AI tool usage and skills, focusing cognitive offloading as a mediating factor. Utilising mixed-method approach, we conducted surveys in-depth interviews with 666 participants across diverse age groups educational backgrounds. Quantitative data were analysed using ANOVA correlation analysis, while qualitative insights obtained through thematic analysis interview transcripts. findings revealed significant negative frequent abilities, mediated by increased offloading. Younger exhibited higher dependence lower scores compared to older participants. Furthermore, attainment was associated better regardless usage. These results highlight potential costs reliance, emphasising need for strategies that promote engagement technologies. contributes growing discourse AI’s implications, offering practical recommendations mitigating adverse effects thinking. underscore importance fostering in an AI-driven world, making this research essential reading educators, policymakers, technologists.

This study evaluates “I Learn with Prompt Engineering”, a self-paced, self-regulated elective course designed to equip university students skills in prompt engineering effectively utilize large language models (LLMs), foster self-directed learning, and enhance academic English proficiency through generative AI applications. By integrating concepts tools, the supports autonomous learning addresses critical skill gaps market-ready capabilities. The also examines EnSmart, an AI-driven tool powered by GPT-4 integrated into Canvas LMS, which automates test content generation grading delivers real-time, human-like feedback. Performance evaluation, structured questionnaires, surveys were used evaluate course’s impact on prompting skills, proficiency, overall experiences. Results demonstrated significant improvements accessible patterns like “Persona” proving highly effective, while advanced such as “Flipped Interaction” posed challenges. Gains most notable among lower initial though engagement practice time varied. This collective systematic literature review is part of an Erasmus+ project, “TaLAI: Teaching and Learning with AI in Higher Education”. The investigates the current state Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) higher education, aiming to inform curriculum design further developments within digital education. Abstract This review was conducted in order to determine the specific role of intelligent technologies individual learning experience. The emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) has caused significant disruption to the traditional educational teaching ecosystem. GAI possesses remarkable capabilities in generating human-like text and boasts an extensive knowledge repository, thereby paving way for potential collaboration with humans. However, current research on collaborating within context remains insufficient methods are relatively limited. This study aims utilize such as Lag Sequential Analysis (LSA) Epistemic Network (ENA) unveil “black box” human-machine collaborative process. In this research, 22 students engaged tasks refine instructional design schemes authentic classroom setting. results show that participants significantly improved quality design. Leveraging improvement demonstrated students’ performance, we categorized them into high- low-performance groups. Through analysis learning behavior, it was observed high-performance group adhered a structured content application framework: “generate → monitor apply evaluate.” Moreover, they adeptly employed communication strategies emphasizing exercising cognitive agency actively cultivating environment. conclusions drawn from may serve reference series practical applications provide directions subsequent studies.

The emergence of ChatGPT has significantly impacted the field education. While much existing research predominantly examined theoretical implications ChatGPT, there is a notable absence empirical studies substantiating these claims. As pivotal stakeholders in education and primary users exploring willingness influencing factors higher students to use can offer valuable insights into real-world needs student users. This, turn, serve as foundation for empowering with intelligent technologies future. This study focuses specifically on demographic Chinese who have utilized ChatGPT. Using semi-structured interviews grounded theory methodology, we aim comprehensively understand extent which embrace new technologies.
