While becoming inextricable to our daily lives, online social media are blamed for increasing mental health problems in younger people. This systematic review synthesized evidence on the influence of use depression, anxiety and psychological distress adolescents. A search PsycINFO, Medline, Embase, CINAHL SSCI databases reaped 13 eligible studies, which 12 were cross-sectional. Findings classified into four domains media: time spent, activity, investment addiction. All correlated with distress. However, there considerable caveats due methodological limitations cross-sectional design, sampling measures. Mechanisms putative effects should be explored further through qualitative enquiry longitudinal cohort studies.

Drawing from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH; N = 611,880), a nationally representative survey of U.S. adolescents adults, we assess age, period, cohort trends in mood disorders suicide-related outcomes since mid-2000s. Rates major depressive episode last year increased 52% 2005-2017 (from 8.7% to 13.2%) among aged 12 17 63% 2009-2017 8.1% young adults 18-25. Serious psychological distress month (suicidal ideation, plans, attempts, deaths by suicide) also 18-25 2008-2017 (with 71% increase serious distress), with less consistent weaker increases ages 26 over. Hierarchical linear modeling analyses separating effects birth suggest are primarily due cohort, steady rise disorder between cohorts born early 1980s (Millennials) late 1990s (iGen). There has been a notable increase in social media and Internet use over recent decades, not only for interaction or entertainment, but also working meeting tools, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. A relationship between this usage development of mental illness is frequently hypothesized, few studies have empirical findings. This study systematic review depression anxiety. Abstract Low life satisfaction has often been associated with problematic social media use (PSMU), smartphone (PSU), FoMO and psychological distress. However, no studies have analyzed the relationship between satisfaction, PSMU, PSU, FoMO, distress, in an integrated model. The present study hypothesized that may influence PSMU PSU through role of A cross-sectional survey completed by 537 Italians (82.9% females [ n = 445] 17.1% males 92], mean age 35.35 years [SD ± 12.14]), included Satisfaction With Life Scale, Bergen Social Media Addiction Smartphone Application-Based Depression Anxiety Stress Fear Missing Out Scale. results indicated direct negative associations both PSU.
