Abstract Objective The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between family communication, violence, problematic internet use, anxiety, and depression validate their potential mediating role. While becoming inextricable to our daily lives, online social media are blamed for increasing mental health problems in younger people. This systematic review synthesized evidence on the influence of use depression, anxiety and psychological distress adolescents. A search PsycINFO, Medline, Embase, CINAHL SSCI databases reaped 13 eligible studies, which 12 were cross-sectional. Findings classified into four domains media: time spent, activity, investment addiction. All correlated with distress. Drawing from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH; N = 611,880), a nationally representative survey of U.S. adolescents adults, we assess age, period, cohort trends in mood disorders suicide-related outcomes since mid-2000s. Rates major depressive episode last year increased 52% 2005-2017 (from 8.7% to 13.2%) among aged 12 17 63% 2009-2017 8.1% young adults 18-25. Abstract Aims While the cross-sectional relationship between internet gaming disorder (IGD) and depression is well-established, whether IGD predicts future remains debated, underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This large-scale, three-wave longitudinal study aimed to clarify predictive role of in explore mediating effects resilience sleep distress. Methods A cohort 41,215 middle school students from Zigong City was assessed at three time points: November 2021 (T1), 2022 (T2) 2023 (T3).
