Ocular surface disorders such as Lid Wiper Epitheliopathy (LWE), Superior Epithelial Arcuate Lesion (SEAL), and contact lens-induced Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency (LSCD) well Limbic Keratoconjunctivitis (SLK) affect one's quality of life. Hence, it is imperative to investigate the underlying causes these ocular disorders. During blink, undersurface eyelid tends interact with cornea conjunctiva. The presence a lens can add biomechanical frictional changes on surfaces. To estimate without lens, finite element model (FEM) wiper, eyeball, was developed using COMSOL Multiphysics. Biomechanical properties von Mises stress (VMS) displacement were calculated. Our study concluded that (a) maximum VMS observed in lid wiper absence eye (b) superior 1.3 mm eye. Thus, development friction-induced LWE, SLK, SEAL, LSCD could be attributed increased VMS. FEA useful simulation tool helps us understand effect blink normal CL.

PurposeContact lens discomfort (CLD) is a major concern that can lead to the decreased or abandoned use of contact lenses. Contact users with dry eye disease are more likely present CLD. This study was conducted evaluate efficacy bioprotective preservative free, hypotonic, 0.15% hyaluronic acid (HA)-3% Trehalose artificial tear in managing symptoms wearers.MethodsA prospective, single-arm, observational pilot effectiveness treatment HA-Trehalose tears wearers (N = 33) aged 18–45 years ocular discomfort. Participants used preservative-free, hypotonic (1 drop/4 times per day) for 84 days. were assessed using Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) (pain, photophobia, sensation, blurry vision, foreign body itching, tingling/burning, and sticky feeling), Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI), Lens Dry Eye questionnaire (CLDEQ-8), Berkley Flow-Chart (DEFC) on Day 0 break-up time (TBUT), surface staining fluorescein lissamine green, meniscus evaluation, visual acuity 0, 35, 84.ResultsAll VAS (except tingling/burning OSDI, CLEDQ-8, DEFC showed statistically significant (p < 0.05) improvement from baseline (Day 0) 84. Similarly, corneal (fluorescein) conjunctival (lissamine green) quality improved during 0.05 at versus baseline). Tear staining, but changes not significant. did change study. There no systemic adverse events.ConclusionsThis instillation lenses syndrome significantly reduced associated signs such as staining.

Abstract Purpose To determine the number of previous contact lens (CL) wearers who could be comfortably refitted into delefilcon A (DAILIES TOTAL1®) CLs. Methods This was a 6‐month, three‐visit study that recruited subjects discontinued CLs within past 2 years because discomfort or dryness symptoms. Subjects were required to have Standard Patient Evaluation Eye Dryness (SPEED) questionnaire scores ≤3 and able wear spherical asked complete ±50 comfort visual analogue scale (VAS) at 1 month Likert after 6 months CL understand subjects' experience. Results All 60 fitted with still wearing them month, while one subject had dropped out by months. median (interquartile range) age 24.0 (7.0) (71.7% female). They reported VAS score 44.0 (8.0) units 1‐month visit, all reporting comfortable score. At 1‐month/6‐month visits, 98.3%/93.2%, 86.5%/78.0% 93.2%/91.5% responded they very satisfied their vision, end‐of‐day overall comfort, respectively. The same likely continue (89.6%) (80.7%) recommend friend (98.3%) (93.2%). Conclusions results suggest when encountering dropout, practitioner educate patient about trying an alternative consider lenses as option.

Contact lenses are one of the most successful biomaterials in history with a global market estimated to be worth over $17 billion 2025. Silicone hydrogel contact dominate and complex biphasic several critical material properties needed for clinical use. Careful consideration composition chemistry is identify formulations meeting all commercial standards potential improved manufacturability, cost, and/or next generation Four silicone macromers were investigated this work varying symmetry siloxane units macromer structure, number groups, branching, length, concentration. Novel produced evaluated optical transmittance, elastic modulus, oxygen transmissibility, water content, surface wettability. Several met demonstrated an increase permeability (Dk) inverse relationship modulus concentration, respectively. A hydrophobic/hydrophilic ratio below 1.4 was co-continuous phase. Substitution methoxypropyl groups butyl increased hydrophobic microdomains leading decreased quality mechanical properties. Generally, fluorine-containing allowed wider range compositions, above certain hydrophilic composition, presence trifluoropropyl resulted solubility optically clear lenses.
