Glaucoma is a chronic optic neuropathy that can lead to irreversible functional and morphological damage if left untreated. The gold standard therapeutic approaches in managing patients with glaucoma limiting progression include local drops, laser, and/or surgery, which are all geared at reducing intraocular pressure (IOP). Nutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, organic compounds, micronutrients have been gaining increasing interest the past decade as integrative IOP-independent strategies delay or halt glaucomatous retinal ganglion cell degeneration. In our minireview, we examine various nutrients compounds proposed current literature for management of ophthalmology diseases, especially glaucoma. With respect each substance considered, this minireview reports molecular biological characteristics, neuroprotective activities, antioxidant properties, beneficial mechanisms, clinical studies published field general medicine. This study highlights potential benefits these substances other ophthalmologic pathologies. Arachidonic acid (ARA), docosahexaenoic (DHA), and eicosapentaenoic (EPA), which are long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs), as well lutein (L) zeaxanthin (Z), can potentially improve brain function. However, the effect of a combination these components (LCPUFAs + LZ) on memory function in healthy older individuals remains unclear. This study aimed to determine if LCPUFAs LZ-supplemented food could Exploratory confirmatory trials (Trials 1 2, respectively) were conducted Japanese with complaints. We randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trials. Participants randomly allocated two groups: placebo or LZ. LZ participants provided supplements containing ARA, DHA, EPA, L, Z for 24 weeks Trial 12 2. Memory functions evaluated using Cognitrax before after each trial. Combined analyses performed subgroups cognitive decline Trials The results showed that supplementation did not significantly affect healthy, non-demented, complaints whereas it improved decline.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress caused by excessive glutamate in the central nervous system leads to neurodegeneration. Albizia lebbeck (L.) Benth. has been reported possess neuroprotective properties. We aimed investigate effect and mechanism of A. leaf extracts on glutamate-induced neurotoxicity apoptosis linked ER using human microglial HMC3 cells. leaves were extracted hexane (AHE), mixed solvents, ethanol. Each different extract was evaluated for cytotoxic effects cells, then non-cytotoxic concentrations pretreated with followed glutamate.
