The working alliance may be relevant in unguided smartphone-based interventions, but no validated measure exists. We evaluated the psychometric properties of six-item Digital Working Alliance Inventory (DWAI) using a cross-sectional survey meditation app users (n = 290) and intervention arm randomized trial testing 314). Exploratory factor analysis suggested single-factor solution which was replicated longitudinal confirmatory analysis. DWAI showed adequate internal consistency test-retest reliability. Discriminant validity supported by lack association with social desirability, psychological distress, preference for waitlist condition. Convergent positive associations perceived effectiveness an Supporting predictive validity, scores positively predicted self-reported objective utilization. When assessed at Weeks 3 or 4 intervention, not earlier, pre-post reductions distress.

Abstract Mobile media support our autonomy by connecting us to persons, content and services independently of time place constraints. At the same time, they challenge autonomy: We face new struggles, decisions, pressure in relation whether, when where we connect disconnect. Digital wellbeing is a concept that refers (lack) balance may experience mobile connectivity. This article develops theoretical model digital accounts for dynamic complex nature relationship connectivity, thereby overcoming conceptual methodological limitations associated with existing approaches. considers an experiential state optimal between connectivity disconnectivity contingent upon constellation person-, device- context-specific factors. I argue these constellations represent pathways that—when repeated—affect outcomes, effectiveness interventions depends on their disruptive impact pathways.

An increase in time spent on screen-based technologies has been suggested to underlie recent increases mental health problems among young people. However, this hypothesis primarily based the findings of cross-sectional studies. The aim current review was provide a comprehensive overview longitudinal studies examining relationship between screen and internalising symptoms. PsycINFO, PubMed/Medline EMBASE were systematically searched for articles published up August 2020. Thirty-five studies, with sample sizes ranging from 126 12,866 participants, met inclusion criteria. association subsequent depressive symptoms found be small very size. Currently, there is a lack of consensus in the literature on association between screen time (eg, television, video games) and children's behavior problems. To assess duration externalizing internalizing problems among children 12 years or younger. For this systematic review meta-analysis, MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO databases were searched for articles published from January 1960 to May 2021. Reference lists manually additional studies.Included studies measured (ie, duration) younger, observational experimental (with baseline data), available English, had data that could be transformed into an effect size. Studies conducted during COVID-19 pandemic excluded. Of 25 196 nonduplicate identified screened inclusion, 595 met selection criteria. The study followed Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-analyses (PRISMA) reporting guideline. Extracted variables child age, sex, socioeconomic status; informants measurement type problems; publication year; design quality. Data extracted by 2 independent coders pooled using random-effects model. The primary outcome was with aggression, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms) depression, anxiety) behaviors diagnoses.Of full-text assessed eligibility, 87 all inclusion criteria, comprising 98 samples 159 425 participants (mean [SD] 6.07 [2.89] years; 83 246 [51.30%] male). Increased small but significant correlation more (90 samples; r, 0.11; 95% CI, 0.10-0.12) (43 0.07; 0.05-0.08) children. Several methodological moderators explained between-study heterogeneity. There evidence heterogeneity (I2 = 87.80).This meta-analysis found correlations problems. Methodological differences across likely contributed mixed findings literature.

Abstract This mixed methods study examined parent‐reported child screen media use before and during the COVID‐19 pandemic by examining 2019–2020 changes in parent perceptions of media, (SMU), problematic (PMU) children aged 2–13 years ( N = 129; 64 boys, girls, 1 nonbinary; 90.7% White, 4.6% Hispanic/Latino, 0.8% Black, 8.5% multiethnic; primarily middle‐to‐high income). Quantitative analyses showed a significant SMU PMU increase (medium effect size). There was steeper among school‐age (older) children. Together, qualitative quantitative results suggest that were influenced distal, proximal, maintaining factors including pandemic, distance learning, behaviors, other children, parental mediation, positive reinforcement.

Findings to date do not support causal or robust associations between use adolescents’ Instead, prior studies have produced a mix small positive, negative, often null associations. The narrative around adolescent development has been but empirical for the story increasing deficits, disease, disconnection limited. This article reviews what known about association well-being, identifies key limitations current research, recommends ways improve science while also minimizing risk creating opportunities positive an increasingly uncertain age.
