Abstract Lichens have been reappraised as self-sustaining and long-living ecosystems in which a multiplicity of microorganisms are housed, addition to the main symbiotic partners. Lichen-associated microfungi can frequently occur cryptically, their species diversity has recently more fully elucidated by DNA metabarcoding studies culture isolations. These lichen-associated fungi represent wide array major lineages ascomycetes basidiomycetes, including both filamentous yeast species. Thanks isolations, morphology subset microfungal studied. Metabarcoding analyses shown high ascomycetous two cosmopolitan rock-inhabiting lichens – Rhizoplaca melanophthalma Tephromela atra many these taxa were successfully isolated culture. Based on morphological phylogenetic analyses of a concatenated dataset ITS, LSU SSU sequences, new species, Phaeoisarialaianensis, was introduced as freshwater hyphomycete from Anhui Province, China.Phaeoisarialaianensis morphologically described erect, rigid, dark brown to black, velvety synnemata which has macronematous, septate, branched, brown, parallel adpressed conidiophores with polyblastic, integrated, terminal, hyaline pale smooth, denticulate, sympodial conidiogenous cells ellipsoidal obovoid, rounded at apex, obtuse tapering towards base, guttulate conidia. molecular characteristics, it is confirmed be species. Yungui Plateau is rich in fungal diversity. Hyphomycetes, growing on submerged wood, can promote the degradation of organisms and reuse rotten wood energy.
