Abstract Background Psychotropic medication is frequently administered to people with intellectual disability mental health and/or behavioural problems, instead of other non‐pharmacological interventions. This study describes the and problems aging disability, their psychotropic intake, factors contributing a greater intake. Method The sample consisted 991 over 45 years. Descriptive statistics multinominal logistic regression were carried out. Results Antipsychotics most used drug. Older mild living in institutions affected by more likely take larger amounts medication. Conclusions continue be widely especially those institutionalised settings. Future research should consider if intake could reduced providing better supports community

Intellectual disability (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are complex neurodevelopmental disorders with high heritability. To search for the genetic deficits in two siblings affected ID ASD a family, we first performed genome-wide copy number variation (CNV) analysis using chromosomal microarray (CMA). We found 3.7 Mb microdeletion at 22q13.3 younger sister. This de novo resulted haploinsufficiency of SHANK3 several nearby genes involved neurodevelopment disorders. Hence, she was diagnosed Phelan-McDermid syndrome (PMS, OMIM#606232). further whole-genome sequencing (WGS) this family. did not detect pathogenic mutations significant impacts on phenotypes elder brother. Instead, identified rare, likely variants seven implicated disorders: KLHL17, TDO2, TRRAP, EIF3F, ATP10A, DICER1, CDH15. These were transmitted from his unaffected parents, indicating these have only moderate clinical effects. propose that worked together led to also suggest combination multiple effects is part mechanism

Background and aims Children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Intellectual Disability (ID) may exhibit medical neurocognitive comorbidities requiring periodic check-ups. In addition, children NDDs often experience language difficulties that hamper an effective communication in the healthcare setting, potential deleterious effects on their compliance. turn, these challenges affect accessing resources receiving adequate short- long-term assistance for primary symptomatology any related comorbidities. Communication impairments also pose barriers involving clinical trials research procedures, those based use of Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation (NIBS). NIBS has shown various benefits across different conditions researchers are increasingly implementing its application, ASD other NDDs. Augmentative Alternative (AAC) be a valuable strategy to sustain participations procedures trials, promoting ethical principles equitable participation inclusion while adopting patient-centered approach. This systematically-conducted review aimed explore (i) ACC compliance during specifically focusing neuromodulation procedure NDDs; (ii) employment AAC tools settings. Methods Articles were searched from PubMed database. All found articles screened by title abstract, followed full text if they met criteria. Results The first search yielded no studies investigating among support comprehension implementation brain stimulation procedures. From second launched search, twelve reviewed. Almost majority eligible papers involved (67%), including small percentage ID (8%) or mixed etiology NNDs (25%). Of note, most included (8 out 12) focused dental care setting. Conclusion Despite methodological variability paucity exploring fostering this highlights AAC’s decreasing stress anxiety levels boosting adherence practices. Starting current literature evidence, protocol is proposed. Implications Promoting settings could beneficial approach enhance practice evidence-based literature. By developing NIBS, our proposal fill gaps. Ensuring crucial delivering gold standard care, adhering statements advancing scientific knowledge.
