Three cases act evidence this claim. The first concerns ‘down low’ claim bisexually behaving Black males are responsible for HIV transmission. second case story ‘barebacking’ told gay bisexual men by queer theorists among others. final recent work using progressive language with would-be abusers ‘minority-attracted persons’. All three demonstrate need be tempered tradition itself subject greater critical scrutiny risk damage minority communities.

Same-sex sexual attraction in both males and females has been associated with childhood sex-atypical behavior. Gynephilic recall behaving a manner that is less female-typical more male-typical compared to cisgender androphilic females, whereas gynephilic males. In addition, male female ambiphilic individuals exhibit intermediate levels of sex-atypicality. this study, we examined recalled sex-typed behavior among Iranian (n = 236), 51), 191), transgender 60), 243), 96), 32), 122). Both elevated sex-atypicality, scoring between females. Male participants scored their other- same-sex attracted counterparts. Transgender exhibited hyper-feminized behavior, even than as Consistent previous research, our findings from Iran – non-Western, Middle Eastern culture provide cross-cultural support for the universality sex-atypicality normative developmental precursor monosexual or ambisexual who are transgender.

Forensic anthropologists have a responsibility to appropriately relay information about decedent in medicolegal reports and when communicating with the public. The terms ‘sex’ ‘sex estimation’ been applied numerous, inconsistent definitions under guise that sex—a broad, complex concept—can be reduced female/male binary. This binary does not reflect biocultural realities harms those whose bodies do meet social expectations of maleness or femaleness. University Nevada, Las Vegas’ Anthropology Bioarchaeology Laboratory (UNLV FAB Lab) advocates for use term ‘assigned sex at birth’ (ASAB) highlight is biologically inherent body, but rather, assigned by society. Additionally, we call disclaimers case denote limitations ASAB estimation methods, differentiation between mixed trait expression (i.e., indeterminate) on whom an analysis cannot performed unknown), included consideration gender forensic anthropology research reports. Such applications challenge biological normalcy, allowing actively advocate expectations.

Abstract ‘Sex’ is often used to describe a suite of phenotypic and genotypic traits an organism related reproduction. However, these – gamete type, chromosomal inheritance, physiology, morphology, behavior, etc. are not necessarily coupled, the rhetorical collapse variation into single term elides much complexity inherent in sexual phenotypes. We argue that consideration ‘sex’ as constructed category operating at multiple biological levels opens up new avenues for inquiry our study variation. apply this framework three case studies illustrate diversity sex variation, from decoupling phenotypes evolutionary ecological consequences intrasexual polymorphisms. instead assuming binary systems, some may be better categorized multivariate nonbinary. Finally, we conduct meta-analysis terms scientific literature highlight how model can clarify, rather than cloud, within across species. such expanded equips us understand processes, biologists it incumbent upon push back against misunderstandings biology enact harm on marginalized communities.

Although filamentous Ascomycetes may produce structures that are interpreted as male and female gametangia, ascomycetous yeasts generally not considered to possess sexes. In haplontic of the genus Metschnikowia, sexual cycle begins with fusion two morphologically identical cells complementary mating types. Soon after conjugation, a protuberance emerges from one conjugants, eventually maturing into an ascus. The originating cell can be regarded ascus mother cell, hence female. We tested hypothesis sexes, or male, determined by There were good reasons hypothesize further type α male. conceptually simple experiment, we observed early stages reaction types differentially labeled fluorescent concanavalin A conjugates. The Bateman gradient is a central concept in sexual selection theory that relates reproductive success to mate number, with important consequences for sex-specific selection. conventional expectation gradients are steeper males than females, implying benefit more from multiple mating females do. This claim supported by much empirical evidence as well mathematical modelling. However, under some systems, reversed observed, perhaps most notably syngnathid fishes male pregnancy. Unlike gradients, the causal basis of such has never been modelled mathematically. Here, we present sex-neutral model demonstrating how restrictions capacity carrying or incubating gametes and embryos (brooding) interact anisogamy, generating both single model. results clearly demonstrate anisogamy tends cause but diminishing brooding pregnancy nesting causes gradual reversal fully ‘reversed’ gradients.
