Abstract
Many
strands
of
research
by
different
groups,
starting
from
teratocarcinomas
in
the
laboratory
mouse,
later
moving
corresponding
human
tumors,
contributed
to
isolation
and
description
pluripotent
stem
cells
(PSCs).
In
this
review,
I
highlight
contributions
my
own
research,
particularly
at
Wistar
Institute
during
1980s,
when
with
colleagues
we
characterized
one
first
clonal
lines
embryonal
carcinoma
(EC)
cells,
teratocarcinomas,
identified
key
features
including
cell
surface
antigen
markers
that
have
since
found
a
place
study
exploitation
PSC.

depended
upon
close
teamwork
colleagues,
many

laboratories,
