Studies elsewhere show that benevolent childhood experiences (BCEs) have protective mental health value. However, this value has never been investigated in an African context. Given the need to better understand what might support resilience among young people, study explores relationship between BCEs and depressive symptoms a South sample of adults living community dependent on economically volatile oil gas industry.A Africa (N = 313, mean age 20.3 years, SD 1.83, range from 18 26; majority Black African) completed self-report questionnaires assess (Beck Depression Inventory-II). The analysis controlled for socio-demographics experience family adversity. Multinomial logistic regressions were used examine association with using STATA 17.The (86.4% sample) reported all 10 BCEs. Of BCEs, having at least one good friend was most (94%) compared 75% reporting predictable home routine, such as regular meals bedtime. unadjusted multinomial regression indicated friend, comforting beliefs, being comfortable self associated lower odds moderate depression. adjusted results showed no depression sample.In sample, our do not associations This could be result homogeneity sample. Abstract Authenticity was proposed as a potential addition to the Psychological Capital construct several years ago, but PsyCap model has not yet been expanded. We review theoretical and empirical support for inclusion of authenticity test this proposal in two studies. Study 1 examines structural A-HERO (Authenticity, Hope, Efficacy, Resilience, Optimism) an extended representation construct. 2 tests extent which may explain well-being. CFA demonstrates that provides slight improvement overall fit. Hierarchical regression shows improves explanation well-being, with beta values comparable size optimism greater than efficacy. therefore recommend be included provide more holistic understanding personal resources enable further identification interactions synergies amongst components.
