The effect of the long-term persistently elevated air pollutants, often referred to as pollution waves, on sexual function has not been sufficiently addressed. This nationwide cross-sectional study involved 12,157 participants, with 5496 females and 5039 males. PM waves were characterized by daily average concentrations surpassing Grade II thresholds China's ambient quality standards (PM2.5 > 75 μg/m3, PM10 150 μg/m3) for three or more consecutive days (3-8 days). Male was assessed through International Index Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT), while female evaluated using Female Sexual Function (FSFI). A multivariate linear regression model employed investigate link between wave exposure function. Exposure defined 3 (β = -0.0145, 95%CI -0.0280, -0.0010), 4 5 -0.0193, -0.0371, -0.0015), 6 -0.0218, -0.0415, -0.0021), 7 -0.0243, -0.0458, -0.0028), 8 -0.0028) days, negatively impacted IIEF-5 scores male Moreover, depression levels, PHQ-9, played a mediating role in connection scores. potentially vulnerable subgroups younger 20-30 low-income groups. The causal relationship between PM2.5 (particulate matter with an aerodynamic diameter ≤2.5 μm) and common mental disorders, along its neuropathological mechanisms, remains unclear. We used genome-wide association study datasets from the UK Biobank Psychiatric Genomics Consortium to systematically investigate nine psychiatric disorders using two-sample Mendelian randomization (TSMR) methods. Subsequently, we two-step MR mediating effect of 108 potential mediators in disorders. Our findings indicated that was positively associated major depressive disorder (odds ratio (OR): 1.33, 95 % confidence interval (CI): 1.11-1.55), anxiety (OR: 2.96, CI: 2.13-3.79), schizophrenia 1.55, 1.29-1.81), attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) 1.95, 1.66-2.24). Unexpectedly, inversely bipolar 0.65, 0.37-0.93). Further analysis revealed Neurotrophin-3 mediated 9.86 PM2.5-ADHD 5.88 PM2.5-schizophrenia association. Sensitivity analyses supported these findings. This TSMR provides a comprehensive examination exposure mediation offering insight into underlying mechanisms. aims raise public awareness how air quality affects health through empirical evidence.

The global prevalence and burden of anxiety disorders (ADs) are increasing. However, findings on the acute effects air pollution ADs remain inconclusive. We evaluated short-term exposure to ambient pollutants, including fine particulate matter (PM2.5), inhalable (PM10), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur (SO2), ozone (O3), daily hospital visits for ADs. A generalized additive model was used perform a time-series analysis data from Southern China city's medical insurance system between 1 March 2021, 31 July 2023. Although levels most pollutants (PM10, SO2, CO, NO2 O3) were consistently below WHO's Ambient Air-Quality Standards, significant associations observed all six pollutants. Each interquartile range increase in concentrations resulted largest odds ratios 1.08 (95% CI: 1.01, 1.16) at lag1 PM2.5, 1.19 1.05, 1.34) lag07 NO2, 1.14 1.23) lag02 1.12 1.25) PM10, 1.06 1.12) lag7 SO2 1.15) O3, respectively. CO remained robust across subgroup analyses sensitivity analyses. Females middle-aged individuals showed stronger than other subgroups. underscore necessity public health efforts alleviate impact mental health, even low-concentration settings.

Abstract Mental health is shaped by socio-environmental determinants, yet traditional research approaches struggle to capture their complex interactions. This review explores the potential of generative agents, powered large language models, simulate human-like behaviour in virtual environments for mental research. We outline applications including modelling adverse life events, urbanicity, climate change, discuss challenges and describe how agents could transform
