This study exploits the October 2008 economic crisis in Iceland to identify effects of a macroeconomic downturn on range health behaviors.Using longitudinal survey data that include pre-and postreports from same individuals, we investigate smoking, heavy drinking, dietary behaviors, sleep, and other behaviors changes work hours, real income, wealth, mental as potential mediators.We also consider role prices shaping compute participation elasticities for various behaviors.We find led reductions all health-compromising examined it certain health-promoting but increases others.The individual-level mediators explained some, not effects.We infer price played large behaviors.
