ABSTRACT Liriomyza sativae Blanchard is an invasive leafminer species affecting major vegetable crops in Tamil Nadu. These insects locate their hosts by detecting volatiles emitted from host plants and surroundings, using olfactory receptors on antennae maxillary palps. This study represents the first attempt to examine various types of sensilla palps adult male female L. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM). The analysis revealed five sensilla: microtrichia, chaetic, trichoid, basiconic, coeloconic. Microtrichia chaetic sensilla, found scape, pedicel, palp, are involved nonolfactory functions such as mechanoreception. flagellum, main organ, contains coeloconic microtrichia. Basiconic categorized into subtypes based morphology. lays groundwork for future electroantennographic research interactions between these environmental chemical compounds.

Insects have evolved complex sensory systems that are important for feeding, defence and reproduction. Parasitoid wasps often spend much time effort in searching concealed hosts with the help of specialized sensilla. However, early evolution such behaviour sensilla is poorly known. We describe two fossil female wasps, †Tichostephanus kachinensis sp. nov. longus nov., from mid-Cretaceous Kachin amber. Phylogenetic analyses based on morphological data retrieved as deeply nested within Evanioidea closely related to extant Gasteruptiidae Evaniidae. Both these Cretaceous possess features, e.g. coronal tubercles flexible ovipositor sheaths, indicate they might laid eggs wood where their larvae possibly parasitized insect larvae. They a peculiar unique 'bottle brush' close apex which has not been observed any parasitoid wasps. These comprise many regularly arranged plate-shaped setae, attached relatively large sockets rows longitudinal ridges. Such perhaps served enhance ability detect inside wood.

Abstract Grylloprimevala jilina Zhou & Ren is the third extant species of Grylloblattodea to be found in China. To understand various physiological functions sensilla on main sensory organs G. during its vital activities, this study used scanning electron microscopy examine morphology appendages and analyze their abundance distribution antennae. The filiform antennae comprise scape, pedicel flagellum. maxillary palps three segments, cerci contain four total. Altogether, 11 morphologically distinct types were identified organs: apertures; Böhm bristles (BB); auricillica (SA), basiconica (SB), campaniformia (SCa), capitulum (SCap), chaetica (SCh), coeloconica (SCo), (SF) trichodea (ST); spines. Studies have revealed that, except some cases, abundances gradually show a trend diversification enrichment as segments are extended forward. Functional predictions for suggest that they include chemoreceptors, mechanoreceptors temperature or humidity receptors. As wall‐pore sensilla, SA, SB, SCo ST could involved perception chemical signals emitted from living environment. In addition, mechanical receptors, BB, SCa, SCh SF may feedback stimuli. Our findings provide an essential insight into rare national first‐class protected insect, necessary theoretical basis studying phylogeny Grylloblattodea.

Abstract Lady beetles (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) are important biocontrol agents that considered generalist predators, although some tribes, such as Scymnini, specialized in predation of sucking pests, mealybugs, aphids, and whiteflies. However, prey preference or pre‐imaginal conditioning may occur coccinellids subjected to large‐scale rearing. Thus, predator–prey interaction be an outcome stimuli. To evaluate possible conditioning, population lines were created for the lady Cryptolaemus montrouzieri Mulsant Tenuisvalvae notata (Mulsant), each fed at least eight generations mealybugs Ferrisia dasylirii (Cockrell) Planococcus citri Risso (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae). Next, behavioral response these was measured arenas treated with volatiles footprints, regarding walking time, speed, distance, residence time. Finally, food between species laboratory semi‐field conditions on infested cotton plants. Conditioned responded similarly released by either offered. Furthermore, there no changes predator behavior towards footprints species. Both consumed more P. all tests, regardless rearing indicating conditioning. These results suggest not affect behavior, both coccinellid effective biological control mealybugs.

Baryscapus dioryctriae is an endoparasitic wasp in the pupae of many Pyralidae pests, such as Dioryctria mendacella, Ostrinia furnacalis, and Chilo suppressalis. To provide requisite background for our ongoing research on mechanisms host location B. dioryctriae, morphology, abundance, distribution, ultrastructure antennal sensilla were investigated using scanning transmission electron microscopy. The geniculate antennae are composed scape, pedicel, flagellum. Eight types including Böhm sensilla, chaetica, trichodea, basiconic capitate peg, campaniformia, placodea, coeloconica, styloconicum with a long hair identified both sexes. Sexual dimorphism exists dioryctriae. number flagellomere males over females, subtypes abundance also different between Additionally, possible functions distinct discussed, which varies from olfaction, contact chemoreceptive, mechanoreception to hygro-/thermoreception, especially, trichodea placodea might be involved olfactory perception These results essential basis further study chemical communication their hosts, contribute development becoming effective biocontrol agent against pests agriculture forestry.
