Global research on has focused studying the biological and pharmacological properties chemical composition bee from Brazil, Indonesia, other regions. However, studies in Mexico are scarce. This study aimed to determine geopropolis Scaptotrigona mexicana collected Totonacapan region evaluate its antioxidant antibacterial activities. phenolic contents ethanolic extract ranged 2.45 ± 0.03 mg GAE/g 3.48 0.56 dry extract. total flavonoid content 0.69 QE/g 0.84 0.009 activity extracts was assessed via DPPH, ABTS, FRAP assays. minimum inhibitory concentration values exhibited (>512 g/mL) for Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aerugunosa Phorphyromonas gingivalis) were higher than those Gram-positive bacteria. showed highest against Streptococcus mutans (256 g/mL). Five known compounds, taraxeryl acetate (1), lupeol (3), cicloart-23-en-3β,25-diol (5), mangiferoic acid (6), 5-(11’Z-heptadecenyl)-resorcinol (7), two irresoluble mixtures 3-O-acetyl-α-(2a) 3-O-acetyl-β-amyrins (2b), α- (4a) -amyrins (4b), identified nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy mass spectrometry. Additionally, 39 volatile compounds headspace-solid phase microextraction using hyphenated gas chromatography coupled spectrometry time-of-flight. main detected include trans-α-bergamotene (8.15%), hexanal (7.17%), 2-heptanone (7.60%), α-copaene (7.09%).

Abstract Tropical East Asia is home to over 1 billion people and faces massive human impacts from its rising population rapid economic growth. It has already lost more than half of forest cover the highest rates deforestation logging in tropics. Hunting trade wildlife products threaten all large many smaller vertebrates. Despite these problems, region still supports an estimated 15–25 per cent global terrestrial biodiversity thus a key focus for conservation. This book therefore deals with plants, animals, ecosystems they inhabit, as well diverse threats their survival options provides background knowledge region’s ecology needed by both specialists non-specialists put own work into broader context. The first edition was describe entire Asian tropics subtropics, southern China western Indonesia, second extended coverage include very similar Northeast India, Bangladesh, Bhutan. third updates contents gives prominence Anthropocene possible conservation responses. accessible style, comprehensive coverage, engaging illustrations make this advanced textbook essential read senior undergraduate graduate-level students studying tropics, authoritative reference professional ecologists, conservationists, interested amateurs worldwide.

Stingless bee products such as honey, pollen, propolis, and geopropolis have been used for centuries in traditional medicine the treatment of several illnesses. Investigation biological activity stingless products, especially propolis geopropolis, has revealed promising therapeutic properties. About 20% total Neotropical bees can be found Brazil. Despite species diversity, studies on their are scarce. The present review focuses antioxidant antimicrobial activities from Brazilian bees. In addition, toxicity these natural was addressed. order to provide new evidences toxic potential components, an silico analysis performed using ADMET PredictorTM software. We observed that most evaluated only crude ethanol extracts a limited number species. Propolis displayed capacity activity. Concerning potential, were considered safe. Nonetheless, vitro vivo toxicological still necessary.

However, studies on these products African Meliponini are still very scarce. In this preliminary study, we analyzed chemical composition honey, two cerumen, resin deposits (propolis) samples Meliponula ferruginea from Tanzania. The M. was profiled by NMR indicated different long-term stability Apis mellifera European (Bulgarian) honey. It differed significantly in sugar organic acids content had a high amount disaccharide trehalulose, known for its bioactivities. We suggested trehalulose to be potential marker bee analogously recent proposal Asia, South America, Australia demonstrated easy discrimination 13C NMR. Propolis cerumen were studied GC-MS (gas chromatography-mass spectometry). contained mainly terpenoids (di-and triterpenes) but qualitative quantitative differences. This fact an indication that possibly has no strict preferences resins used construct protect nests. antimicrobial anti-quorum sensing properties materials also tested. These first results rich biologically active substances deserved further research.

Our effort to find new material for anti cancer from natural resources leads us focus on stingless bee products such as honey, pollen, and propolis. The were seven bees named Homotrigona fimbriata, Heterotrigona itama, bakeri, Tetragonula sarawakensis, testaceitarsis, fuscobalteata, laeviceps. evaluated their cytotoxicity effect MCF-7, HeLa Caco-2 cell lines. This is the first time be reported that ethanol extracts of pollen propolis H. fimbriata displayed more potent than other products. By chromatography biological activity-guided fractionation, extract was fractionated isolated its active compound mangiferonic acid. Mangiferonic acid showed a with IC50 values 96.76 µM in >110.04 HeLa, > 110.04 Caco-2, respectively. These results exhibited potential further developed drug experiments verify function are essential.
