Abstract A highly authentic learning setting is likely to trigger positive motivational and emotional reactions due its emphasis on promoting the acquisition of knowledge that connected transferable real-world phenomena outside environment. However, a high level authenticity usually accompanied by complexity inherent in real world. This can be overwhelming for learners hamper or even prevent cognitive outcomes. Consequently, help cope with this complexity, they need some kind instructional support. By building support into order promote outcomes, thereby effects outcomes may, however, turn reduced. In present conceptual paper, we refer tension between one hand, support, other as “authenticity dilemma”. Based existing empirical evidence from previous studies, (1) outline dilemma, (2) discuss ways reconceptualize it, (3) derive implications regarding conditions learning. Finally, findings studies included special issue “Perspectives Authentic Learning” through lens dilemma.

Purpose This study explores how authentic assessment has helped improve self-perception of leadership skills among business students in a developing society where is not popular. Design/methodology/approach Data on was collected using the Leadership Skills Inventory. Collected data analyzed Principal Component Analysis, two-way ANOVA, and Multiple Regressions. Findings Authentic designed toward enriching teamwork positively affects development. Students' involvement extra-curricular activities fosters impact leadership. Female demonstrate higher self-confidence leadership, which surprising to conventional view cultural expectations. Work-integrated learning or cross-country real-trade projects do trigger gender biases Practical implications Our emphasizes importance group work assessments work-integrated approach design education. Originality/value The results provide meaningful regarding development education country common at high school university levels.
