Biochar could be a brilliant additive supporting the anaerobic fermentation process. However, it should taken into account that in some cases also harmful to microorganisms responsible for biogas production. The negative impact of carbon materials result an overdose biochar, high biochar pH, increased arsenic mobility methane solution caused by material, and low porosity microorganisms. Moreover, when is affected digest solution, reduce biodiversity purpose article not reject idea additives increase efficiency production, but draw attention properties ways adding these These findings have practical relevance organizations seeking implement such systems industrial or local-scale plants provide valuable insights future research. Needless say, this study will support implementation technologies waste management implementing circular economy, further emphasizing significance

Published: Jan. 4, 2024

The low and unstable performance is still one of the major obstacles for anaerobic digestion, which provokes researchers to develop some strategies improve it. In addition traditional approaches such as co-digestion, pretreatment, recirculation, emerging strategies, namely additive microaeration have also been recognized developed in recent years due update knowledge. Many studies evaluated effect those on digestion performance. However, it lacks a unified analysis induction, especially mechanism different strategies. Therefore, this review presents comprehensive view research progress based latest researches considering five main Critical think summary their mechanism, reactor performance, availability were executed. results demonstrated that contribution mainly balance composition activity hydrolysis, acidogenesis, methanogenic archaea. Recirculation co-digestion mass reaction environments. Pretreatment makes structure substrate (such removing lignin, reducing cellulose crystallinity, increasing substrate-specific surface area) more conducive microbial utilization. strategy varies greatly depending type additive, enhancing interspecies electrons transfer through conductive materials, resisting adverse conditions functional additives, accelerating nutrient absorption by regulating bioavailability trace elements. Although these mechanisms promoting ultimate goal make parameters an ideal status, then achieve among substance, microorganisms water reactor.

The European Union’s energy policy favors increasing the share of renewable in total production. In this context, co-digestion various waste streams seems an interesting option. This study aimed to determine effect selected pretreatment methods on efficiency and kinetics process poultry manure with sewage sludge organic waste. research was carried out four stages: (1) selection third component mixture; (2) determination most favorable inoculum-to-substrate ratio for (3) parameters based changes volatile fatty acids, ammonium nitrogen, extracellular polymers substances (EPS) non-purgeable carbon (NPOC); (4) evaluation anaerobic result BMP tests kinetic studies. All increased degree matter liquefaction as measured by NPOC changes. Waste a high fat content showed highest methane potential. addition grease trap feedstock yield from 320 mL/g VSadd 340 VSadd. An optimal 2. methods, especially thermochemical one NaOH, yield, which 501 (trial 4.5 g/L NaoH).
