Abstract The integration of generative artificial intelligence tools in education has emerged as a transformative approach to enhancing learning outcomes, particularly the context sustainable development goals (SDG4). Therefore, present study investigates connection between tool usage (GenAITU) and academic achievement (AA) SDG4. We assessed mediating role shared metacognition (SMC) cognitive offloading (COL) this relationship among preservice teachers (PSTs). indicators, including performance expectancy (PE), effort (EE), facilitating conditions (FC), use behavior (UB), are derived from adapting Unified Theory Acceptance Use Technology 2 (UTAUT2) for GenAITU. authors surveyed 465 students five universities Wuhan, China, using 7-point Likert scale through time-lag design. Statistical analysis was performed partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), determine variables. Findings indicated that two components GenAITU, namely PE UB, showed significant positive associations with AA, while other two, EE FC, did not show relationships AA. Results also three dimensions EE, UB have association SMC SMC. All four GenAITU like PE, links COL. COL mediated connections (EE, UB) Outcomes (PE, current shows were strong mediators results our provide guidance teachers, curriculum planners, university management successfully integrate into PSTs.
