Abstract Context Urban green infrastructure (GI) multifunctionality is widely valued within the academic literature, and underpins calls from policy makers to enhance expand GI resources. However, there a gap in understanding concerning how connectivity size influence outcomes. Objectives The objectives are to: (1) present current status of research on urban (encompassing ecosystem services disservices) traits size; (2) identify relationships between these topics literature; (3) provide insights actionable planning recommendations based findings research. Methods A systematic review 139 sources (2010–2023) was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Results Key include that themes more commonly considered exploring across boundaries than them, where wider range flows functions associated (and enabled. Also, predominantly focuses multiple large sites, with limited attention single small sites found dense areas. Conclusions Greater consideration needed manipulation outcomes, whilst also recognising threat disservices emerging as result such actions. Through uncovering gaps issues, highlighting benefiting stronger foundations, this can support policy, practice realising outcomes settings, minimising disservices.

Abstract Research is revealing an increasing number of positive effects nature for humans. At the same time, biodiversity in cities, where most humans live, often low or decline. ABSTRACT Urban ecology is a rapidly growing research field that has to keep pace with the pressing need tackle sustainability crisis. As an inherently multi‐disciplinary close ties practitioners and administrators, synthesis knowledge transfer between those different stakeholders crucial. Knowledge maps can enhance provide orientation researchers as well practitioners. A promising option for developing such create hypothesis networks, which structure existing hypotheses aggregate them according topics aims. Combining expert information from literature, we here identify 62 used in urban link network. Our network clusters into four distinct themes: ( i ) species traits & evolution, ii biotic communities, iii habitats iv ecosystems. We discuss potentials limitations of this approach. Analyzing long-term dynamics of landscape patterns can provide important insights into the changes in functions, that are necessary for optimizing resource management strategies. This study primarily aimed at quantifying structural change. The Land use/land cover (LULC) layers 1972, 1987, 2002, and 2017 were mapped from Landsat images, projected to 2032 2047. Factor analysis was then employed select independent core metrics composition configuration characterize landscape. A post-classification comparison indicated that, between 1972 2017, natural vegetation, grassland, barren land waterbody covers declined by 89.9%, 67.9%, 67.8 15.9%, respectively. On other hand, plantation increased 692.1% followed human settlement (138%) farmland (21.8%). similar trend is likely continue 2047 with a slight decline category Analysis revealed number patches increased. Specifically, plantation, land, grassland 171.4%, 69.7%, 65.8% 28.6%, In contrast, 53.1%, 46.3% 33.9%, Future predictions showed declining all LULC types. An increasing largest patch index size farmland, categories observed across years, suggesting intensified activities Consequently, habitat has become fragmented. Landscape pattern changed considerably more fragmented over last 45 years. Nevertheless, future projections suggest fragmentation potentially assemblage forming simple fewer large class patches. results this could perhaps be applied designing strategies planning conservation decision-making.

Abstract Context Urbanisation is an environmental filter for many species that leads to community homogenisation, with a few inhabiting isolated patches (e.g. public and private gardens parks) embedded within the urban landscape. Promoting biodiversity in areas requires understanding which traits allow survive Objectives The objective of this study was assess how landscape factors combine functional groups live city. Methods We used butterfly count data collected by volunteers 24 Barcelona city, during 2018 2019. Species were clustered according their traits. applied multinomial choice model test effect on different groups. Results Three became prevalent city while fourth, containing most sedentary specialist species, filtered out. Although observed had similar richness, abundances varied depending characteristics. Specialist specialists medium mobile all favoured patch connectivity; presence generalist only enhanced habitat quality. Our results indicate communities are more diverse highly connected gardens. Conclusions highlights need contextualised management actions accounting groups, rather than focused general richness. It demonstrates planning must focus improving connectivity inside order diversify composition.
