The pollution of the aquatic environment has become a worldwide problem. widespread use pesticides, heavy metals and pharmaceuticals through anthropogenic activities increased emission such contaminants into wastewater. Pharmaceuticals constitute significant class can seriously threaten health non-target organisms. No strict legal regulations on consumption release water bodies have been implemented global scale. Different conventional wastewater treatments are not well-designed to remove emerging from with high efficiency. Therefore, particular attention paid phycoremediation technique, which seems be promising choice as low-cost environment-friendly treatment. This technique uses macro- or micro-algae for removal biotransformation pollutants is constantly being developed cope issue contamination. aims this review are: (i) examine occurrence in water, their toxicity organisms describe inefficient treatments; (ii) present cost-efficient algal-based techniques contamination removal; (iii) characterize types algae cultivation systems; (iv) challenges advantages phycoremediation.

Among personal care products, quaternium-15 is prominently featured as a preservative in items such shampoos, soaps, shaving and cosmetics. The widespread use of these products people's daily routines contributes to release into aquatic ecosystems. In this context, the primary aim study was assess physiological cellular responses digestive gland gills Mytilus galloprovincialis exposure. Cell viability ability cells regulate their volume were evaluated. Additionally, expression genes involved oxidative stress response assessed further substantiate compound's harmful effects. Results indicated significant decrease both RVD (regulatory decrease) capacity when exposed hypotonic solution. Furthermore, impairment cell function corroborated by modulation stress-related gene expression, including SOD, Cat, well Hsp70 CYP4Y1. Similar alterations observed gills, reflecting impaired functionality vital organ well. summary, outcomes provide conclusive evidence toxicity quaternium-15. Generally unseen and infrequently measured, submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) can transport potentially large loads of nutrients other land-based contaminants to coastal ecosystems. To examine this linkage we employed algal bioassays, benthic community analysis, geochemical methods water quality parameters nearshore reefs adjacent a variety potential, nutrient sources on Maui. Three common reef algae, Acanthophora spicifera, Hypnea musciformis, Ulva spp. were collected and/or deployed at six locations with SGD. Algal tissue nitrogen (N) (δ15N, N %, C:N) compared δ15N-nitrate values surface all locations. Benthic composition was estimated for ten 10-m transects per location. Reefs sugarcane farms had the greatest abundance macroalgae, low species diversity, highest concentrations in tissues, groundwater, marine waters anthropogenic impact. Based δ15N estimate ca. 0.31 km2 Kahului Bay is impacted by effluent injected underground Wastewater Reclamation Facility (WRF); region barren corals almost entirely dominated colonial zoanthids. Significant correlations among indicate that these bioassays provided useful measure source loading. A conceptual model uses % identify potential source(s) relative loading proposed Hawai'i. Highly efficient and selective removal of pharmaceuticals personal care products (PPCPs) from wastewater is a great challenge significant. In this study, we chose UiO-66-R, which contains eight isostructural metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with variable functional groups (-R), as platform for systemically investigating the influence functionalization on its adsorption behavior respect to three classic PPCPs. We conducted kinetic, modeling, structure-function relationship studies PPCP using MOFs. The kinetics, including rate, affinity, separation factor ( RL), were comprehensively analyzed simulated. design function MOFs can greatly promote their capacity efficiency study revealed that hydrogen bonding, electrostatic, π-π interactions between molecules played important roles in process significantly influenced efficiency. This paves new way application pollution provides guidance porous materials environmental treatment applications.
