Abstract Mitigation of toxic contaminants from wastewater is crucial to the safety and sustainability aquatic ecosystem human health. There a pressing need find economical efficient technologies for municipal, agricultural, aquacultural, industrial treatment. Nitrogen-doped biochar, which synthesized waste biomass, shown exhibit good adsorptive performance towards harmful aqueous contaminants, including heavy metals organic chemicals. Incorporating nitrogen into biochar matrix changes overall electronic structure favors interaction N-doped with contaminants. In this review, we start discussion preparation techniques raw materials used production along its structural attributes. Next, adsorption pollutants on biochars systematically discussed. The mechanisms contaminant removal by are also clearly explained. Further, mathematical analyses adsorption, quantification process design, understanding mechanics process, reviewed. Furthermore, influence environmental parameters reusability critically evaluated. Finally, future research trends design development application-specific treatment suggested. Graphical abstract

In a time when climate change increases desertification and drought globally, novel effective solutions are required in order to continue food production for the world’s increasing population. Synthetic fertilizers have been long used improve productivity of agricultural soils, part which leaches into environment emits greenhouse gasses (GHG). Some fundamental challenges within practices include improvement water retention microbiota as well boosting efficiency fertilizers. Biochar is nutrient rich material produced from biomass, gaining attention soil amendment purposes, improving crop yields carbon sequestration. This study summarizes potential benefits biochar applications, placing emphasis on its application sector. It seems improves density holding capacity, reduces fertilizer requirements, enhances microbiota, yields. Additionally, usage has many environmental benefits, economic role play credit systems. (also known biocarbon) may hold answer these requirements.

Biochar is a carbon-rich product obtained from the thermochemical conversion of biomass. Utilizing biochar essential for enhancing economic viability and maintaining ecology effectively. This work reviews techniques producing various lignocellulosic biomass sources. Pyrolysis technology converting into has emerged as frontier research domain pollutants removal. The effects feedstock parameters, production techniques, reaction conditions (temperature, heating rate, etc.), activation, functional group modification are compared on biochar's physical chemical properties. review also focused environmental applications in several domains, such agriculture wastewater treatment. Considering extensive availability feedstock, excellent physical/chemical surface properties, inexpensive cost, remarkable potential removing water efficiently. Studying evolution properties by in-situ or post-modification great significance improving utilization value valuable resource, yet its application necessitates additional structure, well development to modify those factors.
